The only thing that will save CFB will be a salary cap and contracts. Make a deal with the NFL to make CFB like Canadian Jr Hockey to the NFL.

All contracts 1-3 years
Players can be traded if college still has athlete under contract
Player can jump if they are a "FA"
Bonuses for playing in Bowl/CFP games
Players are eligible as long as they can be enrolled at the school (secretly hoping we get some PhD and JD students suiting up on Saturdays for like 10 years)
Inevitably there will be a players union but gotta let that happen eventually

There are so many things wrong with this post I don't know where to start.

They are not employees, they are students who are making money from 3rd parties. No different than a typical student with a job. The school doesn't pay them, so they don't "own" them or any rights to where they play.

The NFL wants nothing to do with a minor league system. They already have a free system called College Football that is not only viable, but thriving independently.

I have said this before, but you have a point about kids playing in college for longer. I think a kid like Domask would be the perfect example of this. Not NBA material but could make a living playing college basketball. I expect someone to challenge the NCAA limit on years played soon.

Challenges would range from
"Hey, I'm a full time student. I've used up my eligibility but I still want to play."

To
"Hey, I'm enrolled in one online class. I've used up my eligibility but I still want to play."

The sad truth is that there probably isn't a clean, feel good answer. Greed and money absolutely corrupt, and it may even be too late for us to be able to do anything about it.

Okay, I said what I said, but this is just messed up. Took NIL and doesn't even have to give it back after not playing a single down? Did he even attend a practice?
NIL is a flat out joke. I get it that kid's make the money for the schools and coaches can just quit whenever and move one. The kids need to be able to have that same freedom but this is beyond ridiculous. And I am a Bama fan. Proctor coming back helps but this is silly and wrong.

I agree. I think Purdue would be willing to pay Edey a lot more money than the NBA. He could play for 20 years in West Lafayette and probably earn $100 mln (or more).
