There is a big name in the portal...

...but not without some controversy...

...the most notable controversy might not be on him but on OSU (though adding the DUI arrest isn't great).

Also, how good is our NIL good at paying players.

Jacob Bostick in the portal… Was down to us and Iowa coming out of high school… Wonder if we take another crack

I am no where near your level of knowledge and respect your posts. So when I see a post like this, it makes me wonder if Illinois football can ever become a top 25 team.

we definitely can (but it is and is gonna be a slog). Bielema has things generally moving in the right direction. but the hole was more like a crater.

really wanted Dowell, but I'm assuming Miznoz's NIL and recent success did the trick. frustrating to see gettable (IMO) in-state Plan A guys go elsewhere

one wonders what is necessary to land four - five 4 star players in one class for a couple years in a row

is it just money now?
With the '24/'25 classes, I really think pooping the bed against one of the weakest schedules ever for a B1G program really hurt us. Following up an 8-4 season with another 8-4 or 7-5 season is a much better sales pitch than 8-4 followed by 5-7.
Without massive NIL numbers or consistent success, it's hard to overcome 30 years of horrible Illini football tradition. Hopefully BB can get us there one day.

Recruiting has to get better. It has to or we will continue to be as we always have been (minus the Beckman days). I believe the coaching staff is capable, but recruiting continues to be a huge uphill battle. IMO

I get that but. I would think playing time would be a factor as well. Seems like many of these 3.5 star players could start by there sophomore year At Illinois.
