Doesn't look like we are going to do so well with Juco's this year. We got a good one in Kante, but was hoping for a DL as well.

Was he a walk-on? Can't recall his name.
No, he was a TE transfer that got hurt and didn’t play this year. Big expectations for his pass catching abilities. Should be a huge factor next year.

From Dan’s January 5, 2024 post…can’t believe it’s been that long already.

Murray State transfer TE Cole Rusk commits to Illinois

new top dog:
White got a 2 point bump, Lovett and Farrell 1 point bumps
Hirdes and Newton also got 1 point bumps

White is the big mover here, going from ~950 to ~800.

The rest of the moves up are the ranking creep - they are getting moved up because other guys in their same rating neighborhood got moved up for [reasons], followed by evaluators saying "well Smith is ranked at X, we need to move Johnson up to Y" that creates inflation issues. Farrell is a good example; regardless of his long-term outlook, it doesn't make sense to have a player rehabbing a torn ACL receive three rating bumps during the season. Newton got a rating bump, but he's still ranked lower than he was a month ago. Hirdes got a rating bump, but he is actually ranked 50 spots lower than when he committed to Illinois.

Naperville Central WR. we went after him hard, but lost out to Cincy. wonder if we'll make another run:

He committed to UI, wasn't in line to make it academically, and hence he 'decommitted'. Was always going to be a stretch, but at a time when we were struggling to recruit in-state, he made sense to have on the commit list for a while
