the trick with all these guys is figuring out what they're worth. not easy. and even if you're spot on, player X's value to another program is going to be different

if McVay's ask is too high and he's unwilling to come down to our acceptable range, c'est la vie. FWLIW, I'm good with that. ton of potential, but no guarantee that will pan out. JC Davis was a lot less risky

This. I'd love to have McVay for the upside alone, but given the limited experience, I wouldn't break the bank on him. There are more pressing needs that we'll need to allocate for: starting LT, WR1, DL

The discussion/leak here is McVay wasn't going to be the top tackle brought in. If that's true, there's a ceiling to how much NIL you would provide for a swing or guy who will compete to start. The staff can't know how UNC or Syracuse is going to spend their NIL or even how much they have to spend. Also, there are completely different levels of $$$ if UNC or Syracuse views him as their de facto LT starter. Lastly, the portal season is a really compressed timeline. Anyone that continues visits within this brief window means the staff will need to already have backup plans and likely bring in those guys soon to avoid a glaring or hole or two going into the spring.

Therefore, I don't see a lot of scenarios where the staff is really confident. If he leaked to them that this is just a courtesy for his agent and/or schools, if he already signed and doesn't want that leaked (not sure it's binding), or if Illinois is getting a chance to match any other offer made.

Illinois will find the players they want and need. There will be a 5 day portal for players that played in the college football playoffs in January. There will be another 10 day window in April 2025. Don't get caught up in the misses or highly regarded transfers. Illinois can just save the money for the next portal dates.

More so than ANY other program is what I got told … Every time JC is on campus … Whitman makes sure to visit … Brad set up an afternoon for them to come visit in his office … That 💩 MATTERS … We’re very blessed with our coaches and especially AD …

On Saturday I was at my Illini Fan Council meeting where Josh came to speak, announcing in his first sentence, “I have to leave at 1:45 because I’m going to meet a recruit.” He left at 1:44. We are really lucky and blessed to have an absolutely awesome and amazing AD.
