Just like the Student Government, the Senate appears to be filled with people with huge egos and inflated opinions of what their role is. Meanwhile guys like Jones and Whitman are out there busting their butts every day to further the interests of the university, and the fools playing government get in their way. Ridiculous.

Losing Braun, but especially Locksley was massive. He and Zookers did most of heavy lifting for those east coast studs and other areas. Was devastating when he took the horrendous head coaching gig in Albuquerque for the Lobos.

He can just give money to athletics and snub the academics
But, it's the principle of the thing lol.

I heard a rumor when I was in school that Hugh Hefner offered to donate a bunch of money to UI athletics in exchange for renaming the building to Hugh Hefner Assembly Hall but someone in academic admin shot down the idea due to the optics. I have no confirmation, it was just a rumor.

Ugh. Why? Is Pinton the only punter we have left now? That's concerning.
Yes Pinton is the only punter left. There’s no loyalty anymore whatsoever but got to get used to it. We are in a new era of college football. I don’t like it but it is what it is.

The NCAA really needs to do something about the transfer portal dates. With so much roster turnover, some schools are going to eventually have a hard time fielding a full roster if this continues. Marshall is a good example. I can see this being an issue carrying over into next season with teams not having full rosters.

A general question for those on this thread: when's the most recent time you were this satisfied about the state and and optimistic about the trajectory of the football program?

For me: 1990, and it was unfounded. I was 24 and had ~ 1% of the information I have access to now through all of you here (and particularly our beloved Insiders) so that '90 optimism was a stab in the dark. Today, I feel pretty good. This seems stable. Waited ~ 35 subsequent years to get here.

So, for me it was going into 2002. 2001 was my freshman year and what a fun year that was. Still had B Lloyd and Walter Young, Beutjer looked like a great guy for Kittner to hand the reigns over to. Defense still looked like it had a lot of promise. I thought the good times were going to last. And even in our defeats I thought there was promise. That OT loss to OSU with Gockman hitting that seemingly miracle field goal that seemed to go forever to float over the bar to tie it is still my most memorable Illini football moment as a student. I had no idea what was to come, and even if you told me, I wouldn't have believed it. I thought great things were on the horizon. But sometimes that horizon is a bit further off than you think, maybe even 20+ years...

or treat punts like the coach at Presbyterian - don’t ever punt . ever

Let’s be honest, he was the worst Australian punter ever. He once completely missed the ball against MSU. Maybe 1 out of 5 of his punts were worth a damn. Should be easy to fund a transfer or walk on backup.

Life sux more for the teams not in teh BIG or SEC...Illinois is one of the largest GDP producing states in the US, there are lots of advantages and levers we haven't fully utilized. One of the largest Alumni Associations, largest univesities, and high income producing graduates. We can cry like little soft charmin babies or do something about it.
