Not for the price … Bret knows the budget and he won’t overspend … We’re gonna be just fine …

Less concerned about him knowing (and adhering to) the budget and more concerned about the budget itself. I get some goes to retention, but I just can't imagine we are all that competitive as it relates to NIL. There are a bunch of schools spending big this offseason. It seems like, more often than not, we're going to be overspent

Portal Update..........................This looks to be fairly current as of Sunday early evening (12/22):

Illini transfer additions
Illini portal entries
Additionally, it appears we have 18 public NIL offers currently outstanding. With all of the guys we've retained on the 2-deep, it seems we're in a really good "numbers" spot!

Am I the only one surprised to not see Terrance Brooks on the outgoing list? Figured we may free up some budget with that one

You're going to end up spending more in the portal than you would with retention. Wisconsin and Nebraska HAVE to spend more $$$ because they have to fix holes in their roster because of outgoing players in the portal. We have 16 returning starters from a 9-3 team, not a ton of seniors leaving, and we're already filling our roster holes at WR, DL, and Edge. Even if we did have Nebraska money, is throwing money at the portal every year what you really want to be doing?

Yes? I would love if the Illini had the budget to throw at some big-timers in the portal to plug holes every offseason
? Franklin, Rusk, and Brooks were big gets at positions of need last year and only Franklin has paid off so far with the jury still out on Rusk. It's all about whether the player is worth the asking price. McVay got likely seven figures from UNC and nobody knows if he can actually play tackle or whether he'll be the most expensive guard in CFB.

Wisconsin and Nebraska have also lost a ton of players.

Don’t forget that JC Davis was a big time addition from the portal.

I would be surprised if both Brooks and Strain are back.

Agree on Brooks. He played less at Illinois than he did either of his first two years at Texas.

He’s either going to the draft or gonna try to find some more money in college from a 3rd team in 4 years which I think would be difficult given his lack of production.

He’s better off transferring down a level and actually playing. I like Strain but he didnt really play this year. Torrie Cox took most of his snaps
