Really sad to see so much in state talent leaving the state especially those going to Iowa idk how they pulled down 1 of the top receivers in state especially with illini having a great y a are this year. hopefully next year we will have alot more top 10 guys make there way to campaign

That site is notorious for poor rankings. Trimble is better than Smith and ranked higher on other sites.

Also Iose is living off his brother’s success. He was far from dominant for a 5 star player. The York kid going to ND was by far the best player on the field when they matched up bs Edwardsville in the playoffs. Nate Marshall is the best defensive prospect in the state.

Overall the talent in the state of Illinois is not great. How many Illinois players end up in the NFL or making a huge impact in college. Brown from St Rita was supposed to be a huge star before he went to OSU. He couldn’t get on the field and then did nothing at Iowa. Henning only returned punts at Michigan. Keep getting talent from Florida and Texas.

We don't have a Rb1 like Rutgers or Penn St. Faegin, Mccray, Laughery, nope. We need a 1200 yard back. The other players are all 2's, and I love em. Not gonna get in done on regular basis for a special season. TE, good room, young. We don't know what Rusk will do coming back from injury. Arkin who is an awesome Illini, more of a blocker 1st.
Lb we have some good returning players. Your right, 1 or 2 beast would make our defense even better. Feagin had pretty similar hip injury and surgery as Bo Jackson. If he is a good not great college running back going forward, I will praise the football God's!

Figure out which guys can help you and if they’re gettable. Doesn’t really matter where they’re from. That said, if we can sustain success, getting our in-state targets becomes massively easier

Not really, because of the five that I’m aware of that we’ve offered, one entered portal after this all settled, and three committed elsewhere (Maryland, UNC, Oregon). Only one where this timeline makes sense is Ayden Kapnik from Idaho. The other four this doesn’t make sense. So, we’re wanting me to get excited about shunning one kid from Idaho?

When the courts knock down the student requirement (and tenure limit), aging NFL players will be able to drop back down to the minor leagues to extend their playing careers. DeVito comes to mind in this respect. Schools with limited budgets will be able to hire talent from a much bigger pool at free market rates to fill gaps in their rosters. Adding salary caps would make it tough for the big schools to buy a title-contending team, leveling the playing field.

To your point on pro contract potential, those initial contracts sometimes lead to better things. Often they’re the end of the playing career. Removing barriers will allow players to move up/down from the majors based on their skills and market demand. It works well for baseball. Why not football too? Each university (already) sponsors an increasingly pro team. Drop the remaining barriers and let the market take over. It seems inevitable, and therefore pointless for the NCAA to resist it. Get out in front and lead.

I am nearly certain the courts are not going to require schools to play athletes that are not students.

Lol that’s why in the other thread people saying Illinois doesn’t have a favorable schedule to make some noise again is crazy.

That schedule has 4 almost guaranteed losses (at Michigan, at Oregon, at Alabama, OSU) and then all those other games even at home are coin flips. That’s a 3-9 season if you can’t close out 1 score games.

I mean, looks like he prioritized new players over retainment. I would assume there were end of year meetings, players made staying commitments, but didn’t follow up with those. And behind the scenes was ongoing obviously. Just have to work it both ways these days.

Guess we will find out whether it was the scheme at Wisconsin, or their D Line were just not very good. That’s the reason for the mass transfers bc there was no production there and they felt the scheme was killing their NFL hopes

if we are taking players from Wisconsin then Dupree would fit the bill.
KF’s injury is bad but modern medicine amazing. ACL and Achilles used to be long term injuries and now guys are coming back the next season. AL struggled with injuries but looked good against Michigan and great against Northwestern. Let’s see how the bowl goes. JM is tough between the tackles and made some great catches in the pass game. CV looked good in spurts. Overall deep room and money would be better spent elsewhere
