I am seeing a lot of offers and some transfers at the TE position. Is this just building depth at the position the next few years, or are some of these guys going to be tried out on the O/D lines? I'm personally VERY hopeful this means we are wanting to run a ton of 2 TE sets and just beat the heck out of our opponents at the LOS.
perhaps
over the years, some coaches do like to take certain tight ends , put some weight on them, and move them to offensive tackle or DE.

When was the last time we did this? Alex Pihlstrom in 2020? Clayton Leonard went the opposite way.

Very intrigued about Knapick. Just for the position aspect of it. If he's naturally a tackle, and he's a guy you "feel good about at any given moment", why not let him start and move Priestly to guard?

Of course except for if you view Priestly as the better and more natural option at tackle...

its been awhile for us
but many high school tackles are 6'4" or 6'5" and a little chubby.
high school tight ends tend to be the taller dudes who have not been heavy. Just pack 35-40 pounds on them and you have a tackle.
Its not as common as it was 25-30 years ago.

Well, that answers that question.

I’m sure BB and Bart want competition and the best 5 will play- this gives them that: depth, competition and flexibility- if Knapnik is one of the best 5 they can start him at RT and move Priestly inside like you said- either way it will make the whole group better.

You get to see the best combination in Spring ball this way

This gives us flexibility and depth. The best 5 will play

yup
and it incentivizes the #6 & #7 guys to work harder to get there.

I played guard in prep ball 45-50 years ago. on my team, we had 3 guards who happened to be evenly matched and we were alsothe 3 smartest guys on the team. My coach solved that problem by having the guards run in the plays .

I was the one who played RG on play and LG the other. The other guys were always RG or LG. It worked pretty good.
Whilst running it in, I must have changed the direction of the sweep at least once per game, when I realized the coach inadvertantly called it to the short side on mistake. I told him so afterwards and he always told me to keep doing that.

How many teams use o-linemen to run in plays?

Amazing offseason so far. I’m so excited for the future of this program and I think we are really going to build on this last season unlike years past
It’s a bit scary that we will have expectations now. But this is so true. We really couldn’t have asked for a better start to the off-season. Could be the most talented Illini team in a long, long, long time next year!

It's amazing that the NIL apparatus is healthy enough to take a shot like this. Ignoring the random health luck, the 2025 Illinois football team is going to be the most talented version in a very long time.

How much of a talent gap is there between us and the remaining 4 teams in CFP?

For me we lack some depth and we don’t have that dominant player who opens things up on offense. We have a solid core but need a player to develop into that playmaker to compete.

I think we have a few players who could make that jump but we will see

The fact we are asking that questions shows how good BB has done
