They really should - the Board of Trustees was supportive and they make these decisions at other universities. To let a professor panel who doesn’t always have the interest of the University in mind veto these honorary degrees is ridiculous. Their answers to the press as to why they voted against it was even more ridiculous “I seem to remember some protests a while back but I don’t really know what the issues were” type of answersI thought I heard the Board of Trustees would look at the process for offering honorary degrees to potentially change how they are voted on due to this mess.
Obviously as supporters of the athletic program this one stings because of the potential benefit to NIL in this day and age but I would feel this way for any nominee who gets turned down in this manner.
