I expect this to be a bigger class, anywhere from 18-25, plenty more to come

How many announcements do you think we get the rest of the month? As a non-insider, Cobbs was a pleasant surprise to me last week. I'd love to see Nasir go public w/a commitment in the near future. Anyone else you (or other insiders) think might be closer to announcing soon?

on roster is A . Laughery......................JMHO , based on his season ending performance's.............
This answer makes me smile. A fair number of people on here seemed really down on him early part of this season (not saying you Pru). Happy to see one of the whipping boys for the Illini’s struggles rushing ball early in games this past year show out and now get mentioned as answer to that question.

that position takes so much abuse at every level that you cant ride one kid. look
at our turn over because of injury. it is rare when a single back (or even two) takes
the vast majority of carries. how deep in the RB room were we this year?

I was one who was disappointed in his early season performance. It wasn't until the bowl game that I learned he was gutting through an injury to start the year. But it clicked, he was a completely different athlete those last few games.

Who’s our next Chase Brown caliber RB (either already on roster or recruited)?
Tough to answer because we have a group of talented backs, and Bret seems to prefer it that way!

Even tough to project with our recruits, because we keep getting talented dudes that back in the day had to be studs, or we’d just miss out. Now, if they hit, they hit, and if not, next man up.

None of the above. The program might go 15+ years before they see another RB like Chase Brown.
This is of course the correct answer. In 2022, Chase Brown was #4 in rushing yards, #3 in yards from scrimmage, and #1 in plays from scrimmage. Those are national rankings, not Big Ten rankings. You can't expect to have a player like that, and you can't plan for it. Sometimes you just get lucky and it happens. Usually, you try and stock the RB room with as much talent as possible and probably end up splitting those touches and yards between 2 or 3 talented backs.

I'd hope UI could have another NFL rotation caliber RB on their roster within the next few years...15+ is crazy talk. We aren't talking Saquon, Bijan or Jeanty.

Mendenhall and LeShoure (who I would say were comparable talents to Brown, Mendenhall >) were back to back, then a decade until Chase Brown. UI was definitely lost in the RB desert from 2010-2019 though. IMO it wouldn't surprise me to see someone like Feagin or Valentine be that guy if they could stay healthy. HUGE IF though.
