2017 Illinois QB Room
Jeff George Jr.
Chayce Crouch
Cam Thomas
Cam Miller

2026 Illinois QB Room
Trey Petty
Carson Boyd
Ethan Hampton
Jershaun Newton
Michael Clayton

2017 was the last time that Illinois had a QB they signed out of high school make 5+ starts.

Newton isn’t considered a QB.

Make the student-athletes your employees and you can fix these issues. Right now they are compensated for their name, image, and likeness. That isn't related to performance (wink wink), so there is no recourse for skipping a practice or playing poorly.
Participate or hit the portal, but don’t do anything to impair the team’s performance. Until the moment you’re gone, you give it your all every day. Character matters.

There’s still the fundamental recourse in any sport from grade school to pros —- skip practice and you ride the bench. Of course the NIL $ is gone, but the message gets through pretty clearly. IMO this guy should be blacklisted for defaulting on his deal and degrading the team’s limited practice time in pursuit of personal gain. He can’t be trusted by any university now.

people do have to realize that with this type of a high profile recruit, and not being in state, and the brand being Illinois after-all...there's always a 30-40% chance of another school swaying him away.

He is for now, will he end up there? Probably not.

But, I’m not sure our starter next year is on that list unless Petty takes a massive step this year. We may be in the portal for our starter

His mother, Becky Clayton, was a very good high school basketball player at Sullivan. Talented, worked hard, a physical player. I think Sullivan won a 1-A state title at Sullivan.
1991, 1992, or other?

Could we consider Anderson at TE and Sutter at WR to get them on the field at the same time? I like tall WR's, but I can't find that old picture of the "extra sized" Jeff Cumberland
They’d both be considered TEs and they’d both a hybrid role of the more modern TE I’d assume. The game is all about mismatches!

That's a cycle I hope is broken....what's the point of qbs committing if they are never given consideration to start because the program is forever looking for something better in the portal

I always wish I knew how to post movie clips in a thread. Washington is one of my favorite actors and won the academy award for his role in "Training Day" (pictured here). IMO he should have won another in his lead role in "The Book of Eli."

Good for Tennessee. Gotta put your foot down at some point.

Now we just gotta hope he doesn't end up at tO$U.
The problem, though, is there are no repercussions for players who do this under the current system. He will find a new school and they will pay him … this year. At least in the pros, if you decide to breach your contract and sit, you don’t get paid until you come back or the team trades you getting value in return.

I think it definitely affects their development, even if there's no official punishment. He could easily become the next DJ at FSU, a player who looked better earlier in their career and just never panned out after 3 different schools.

Arch Manning is the only top QB to not transfer and I think he'll have the best career out of them all, not even including making the NFL.
