Unless they are giving him 6 million or something absurd why would he leave? We will probably be ranked higher than UT preseason, he has to learn a new offense in one camp, and he has the chance to be an Illini legend forever vs just a one year guy at UT. His Dad is also a surgeon, so while millions of dollars make a difference they wouldn't be desperate for them.

Also if you're UT is it worth paying Luke 3 million more than Steve Angeli? It's a one read and throw offense, you just need a game manager.

You should check again and l look in the recruiting forum. A lot of smoke over there saying Luke is on the way.

This seems like it’d be out of character for Luke.

His Twitter page is full of all his pro-Illini stuff, including talking about coming back for his senior year.

I simply can’t see what could draw him away, especially considering all the unknowns he’d be facing.

For now, I’ll chalk this up to the weekend rumor mill and wait until something concrete comes out.

it depends on where you get the info. I checked their 247 sports board and their staff guy is saying something different.

I can’t imagine another team paying enough to get Luke to jump. Luke is in that sweet spot for Illinois where he’s good, but he’s not so so so good that another team with deeper pockets would look to poach.

I have a really difficult time believing Luke would leave. Considering his familiarity with the offense, the line that he has, the fact that we very well could be a CFP team next year, and the fact that I have very little doubt our donors would match whatever ludicrous number Tennessee would put out there, and the fact that he has NFL aspirations which would honestly be best suited by playing here due to that familiarity with the offense and playbook, it would seem almost ludicrous to me he would consider it. Crazy things happen, and hell, this seems like one of the most Illinois football things that happens to us whenever we finally seem to have something good going, but I can't see this going down. I just can't.

To be clear, the individual claiming Altmyer is a lock to Tennessee on twitter is not anyone. At all. The article he is quoting is a click bait article insinuating Altmyer has ties to Heupel, because his OC at Ole Miss was Heupel's OC 7 years ago at UCF. That isn't real.

No idea if there is merit to this, but that isn't the evidence.

It makes no sense that Tennessee can pay Luke more than we can. This is arguably Illinois’ most important year of football. We can have back to back Top 15 seasons and place ourselves as a legit top program in the “New Era” of college football where we can actually compete. We have monster recruiting classes coming. A 3rd year QB is tying it all together. No chance a program can pay Luke more money as a 1 year rental. It is impossible to let Luke walk. Plus, Tennessee was only paying Nico $2M. Pay the man his money. Too much is on the line.
