Actually not much since it initially came out...that kinda scares me...then Louisville says that he doesn't know much about the football side...zoinks!

Yeah, there is probably something to the fact that they reached out to Luke’s team and there were conversations given the smoke from UT insiders- but I would have to think BB and Josh would do what it takes to keep him. Luke also doesn’t seem like the type to leave just for the most money, he knew he could get more if he went to the portal.

Tennessee being the college football hero for standing up to greedy players only to tamper with everyone else’s QB to try to pry kids off a team with promises of $1M more money is the ultimate villain arc if I’ve ever seen one

Would be absolutely shocking if Luke left … Luke is a loyal guy … Legacy is important … Why would he just wanna be another guy at Tennessee vs. potentially the guy who lead Illinois to a CFB playoff …

As far as people saying oh he wants to get paid … He’s getting paid very, very well here … We have just as many NFL scouts through our building as Tennessee does … And let’s just call it what it is … The kid comes from a little money and doesn’t have to help pay the bills back home …

Bret has built that relationship … Barry and Art have built that relationship … I trust Luke when he says that matters more to him than anything else …

Happy Easter … 🐰

Is it sacrilegious to say that's the best news we can get on Easter?

Smart decision … Can’t be mad at a kid for taking a bigger paycheck to provide for his family …

Do I think the kid handled it poorly ? Yes …
agree on both

I’m not angry at the lad , i’m sure the money was substantially larger enough to make it an easy decision for him .

but

I just hate what the college football and basketball game has evolved into , in this new wild wild west . and it’s gonna get a lot worse before it gets better

Totally agree with everything here.
How do people think Tennessee was going to get a QB??
This seems like UT boosters scouting out possible QBs and thinking Luke could be easily had from Illini. Confident, and spreading the info before anything is agreed.

The truth is, no one on the UT board really knows, but he is definitely being talked about a lot by the fans. Usually that starts from somewhere and based on a couple people who are usually right, it does seem like he's at least listening to the Vols pitch. I'm a UT fan, fyi, who posts over there a lot.

You guys have a good board. Most of them are money grabs or set up on 1993 interfaces (just check the Mizzou board if you want a headache) VolNation is a good board like this too.

5 days after Altmeyer announced he was staying, the Illini took a transfer who was looking for PT and could've gotten it at Wake Forest. Why did he come to Illinois?

They think it’ll be easy going against Bret …

Ask Beamer how that went …

Trying to poach our QB …

BIG TEN BELT …

I had a lengthy post in my mind about what's going on in college sports now , but decided it was an outdated point of view comparing what's happening now compared to what's happened in the past...........The old adage that's always been true to me
of " change is necessary for growth " still rings true in my mind today.....but , with that in mind , there definitely needs to be some guardrails to govern the bizarre scenarios we see today........

I commend Tenn for drawing a line in the sand regarding their former QB1 , but their now pursuing QB1's at other schools only prolongs the needed brakes on this abnormal state of affairs we see daily.........

What's occurring now shows that your word or even your signature matters nigh...........the almighty $$$ is the driver and loyalty and honesty take a back seat to the staggering amounts of money being thrown around now.........the line of difference between pro sports and college sports is so fine that it begs to question where and what the future path is........

I guess my age and what used to matter in society now has gone by the wayside......I know if I was an athlete today or a parent of an athlete today I probably would look at this in a different way.......but something needs to change or I see the fans getting priced out of the enjoyment of college sports either by exorbitant prices of tickets or gross increases in viewing TV and online said sporting events.........Will we see Pay Per View shows of the Illini games at $ 59.95 each and every game ?????

The total shift of amateurism to the sidelines and becoming an extinct species brings a tear to my old eyes....it really really does..

As always , JMHO....................

Not to just ride your coattails, but the bolded is what came to mind first for me.

Pretty sure the initial tweet referenced his dad being an orthopedic surgeon for Miss St. And I don't know him, but when Luke talks about the football program, the University, and his experience...it just feels like this is what he wants.

Whole thing seems to have just blown up from some dude making connections between Luke and Heupel and the internet did it's thing and ran with it.

Always appreciate the input, and Happy Easter back to you (and all). 🐰 🥚

Yeah, it’s unbelievable where we have landed, and it seems to keep getting worse. We have the dominos from of a coaching carousel. Are we now going to have a player carousel whenever a prime starting job opens up? At least the pros have multi year deals. This seems like it’s headed to a year by year free agency unless something changes.

Doesn't the portal close April 25th...?
Yes, at least this will be officially over in the next 5 days. The funny thing is, I’m sure this will be the next thing to be challenged in court (you cant restrict rights to earn money on NIL, why should colleges be able to restrict rights to transfer when they want in a free market?). Which will lead to total chaos and ruin the game even further

We’re already there.

My wife graduated thanks to full-ride athletic scholarships, but had to sit out one season after a transfer. The NCAA could impose such a rule and it would put a nice damper on this merry-go-round. There’s no legal obstacle to doing it since it’s just an eligibility rule with no effect on compensation. Allow the transfer and allow paying as much as you like, but limit playing time after a transfer and you’d see both universities and players become much more selective. Why not?
