The fact that we are having top tier programs looking to poach or offer huge sums of money to our top players to get them into the portal, is a great indication of the tremendous job that Coach B and staff have done with coaching up our roster/roster construction. We are slowly getting to the tier that we have all wanted, and this is what happens when we have great talent on our roster.
Yes.. I thinking TN trying to lure Luke is an indication of our trajectory rather than TN's.

I think an unstated part of being a transfer QB is that it’s really freakin hard to step in and continue to play at an elite level. There’s so many facets to being a QB, each offense is pretty drastically different.

For Luke, he’s got plenty of offensive talent around him to shine and he’s been in the system 3 years now. That’s more valuable than a couple million IMO, mostly because it raises the floor for the chance to be drafted or at minimum get a legitimate look in the NFL.

I think we have competitive NIL and a good coaching staff in addition to the resources I mentioned above. By no means saying there aren’t real and valid reasons to go to a higher profile school, but this isn’t the Beckman/Lovie teams of the past anymore.

I would've liked to have Luke on the Vols, but it's good to see a loyal player stick to his team. Vols likely offered over $1.5m, someone said maybe closer to what Iamaleava was due to be paid, if not more due to the circumstances (around $2.4m).

Not sure where Josh fits here....Frazier, freshman 5.0 per carry, and Etienne Junior also 5.0 per carry, toss in Robinson, Sophomore 3 yds....crowded house....who's the backup now??
The only way this lateral move by McCray makes sense is that Georgia was able to offer him a fair amount more in NIL to be a back-up back then we could.

I think that'd have to be the logical thought.i don't have inside info or anything like that but just a couple of weeks ago he was talking the illini up either there boosters showed the money or maybe they're dealing with a lingering injury or possible transfers departure

True to some extent.

But if it's a competition for players, you're not getting the players if you don't offer to pay for the sit out year. Because somebody else will pay them.
Every school would face a budgetary dilemma, discouraging indiscriminate transfers. How many bench surfers can we afford?

We need to put some sort of damper the transfer game. Restoring the sit-out year is the single best thing the NCAA could do to instill a bit of stability while still letting players and teams seek a better long term fit. It should also encourage freshmen to make more thoughtful choices, knowing they can’t jump ship annually without consequences.

We backed off on him. I still like him as a prospect but he hasn’t been a priority
yup

as a father of 3 HC grads, I always like to see those guys go to IL . but , they don’t always pan out . Kramer & Pilcher did . others not so much

Owen Fors , come on down .
edit : jinx to Joel Goodson

Putting that all on the player is silly
I'm not....? It's just the way the game is now. He had NIL in place and wanted more but Tennessee didn't want to meet his demands so he chose to enter the portal. No one made him do any of that.

This feels like the "don't panic but this could happen" post that insiders do before the bad news breaks 2 days later.

Akin to "a lot of people on staff wondering if Dix is worth 2 million dollars".

He sat out a practice in a contract dispute and was cut.

NIL in theory is great . mostly , we wanted to see players get lifted out of poverty and eliminate the under the table stuff . we envisioned the young linemen & similar getting x (say $20,000) & superstars getting 3x . perhaps that was unrealistic

but this unlimited transfer thing with no sit out has just thrown everything into chaos .

League consolidation is nothing compared to the chaos unlimited transfers is causing .

I hate what college football & basketball has become . I just hate it

Did I say I hate it ?
