I know "local recruiting" probably doesn't matter as much in our current era of NIL and the transfer portal, but I personally think there is still a lot of intangible value in winning a recruitment like this. The St. Louis Area produces some great players, and there is nothing but upside in making a big statement that the areas on the east side of that river are OUR turf. Not saying this is the end-all fan map (it is from way back in 2014 and has some obvious issues), but an image like this should piss any Illini fan (or even Illinoisan!!) off:

no such thing, but I definitely get what you're saying. Miznoz has been drinking our milkshakes for far too long. time to start drinking some of theirs

squinting, I see him as a Nick E (not gonna try, lol) from S. Carolina type. 6' 3" 225 ball breaker, regardless of pass or run

A couple months ago it seems certain the staff was going to add another prep guard and a prep tackle. Now it feels like "we'll take a really good prep tackle or we'll wait". Could be they feel better about Pritchard, Bright, or Smith (if UCLA stumbles). Could be they feel confident that Tony B. will move to guard in a year. Maybe they feel better about the incoming prep class than they did a couple months ago?
