Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine has a collection of images of TX high school helmets

For example, this is Pearland, Jaylen Stewart's school

Finally this is Kaedyn Cobbs's Guyer HS. Warning this helmet is currently on my Mount Rushmore of HS football along with Massillion in OH, Southlake Carroll in TX, and the IHSA's own Fisher Bunnies.

if we land Hankins, and one of the tight ends, is this our highest rated class ever ?

It's a simple question but a complicated answer:

By Ranking? Possibly. Definitely the highest ranked Illinois class since Zook. The pre-2005 classes are effectively digital ancient history with the loss of Scout. Only Rivals exists as a data point for the '05-'09 time period. Going off of memory, Scout was more optimistic than Rivals on Zook's recruiting. I want to say that 2007 class was ranked in the teens by Scout. Anything before ~late 1990's is impossible to decipher because there were only a couple programs that were recruiting at a national level back then, with everyone else doing 90% of their recruiting at a local/regional level.

By Talent? Impossible to know. Still would take the 2007 group over 2026 because Zook was "shopping" in a different level. Two 5-stars, 6 4-stars. Rankin is an incredible get, but there is a big difference getting a top-75 ranked prospect compared to Benn, who was close to a top-10 prospect as a senior. Closest comp for this class is the 2006 class with Juice and Vontae.

The simplest answer is this could be the most talented incoming class for Illinois since national recruiting took off, but it's easily the most talented recruiting class since 2008.
