This is starting to feel like basketball recruiting around 2020 when we went from praying and hoping one top target would pick us....
Feels like the staff is shifting from why SHOULD you commit to why WOULDN'T you. Not that they are treating it that way but their position of confidence and sell

Welcome & congrats on making a fantastic choice in such a unique way. Our State, our Team. Illini Nation is excited that you decided to join the #FamILLy! As 39 year season ticket holders, we can’t wait to see you don the O & B, walk in the Illiniwalk, & play in Memorial Stadium! #IlliniForLife 🧡💙

I am beyond ecstatic about the state of the program but also just can’t escape the thought that “it could have been this way for a long time”. I think the assumed inherent disadvantages of Illini football have been long overstated. We. Just. Needed. Competency. (I am not trying to understate the accomplishments of both BB and staff as well as the fanbase)

we've already gone through this - our class is very good, but nothing will quite top Zook's class of 2 five stars and 5 or 6 four stars.
My only argument against this is that stars meant more back then. These days stars/ratings seem to be more based on who results you than the other way around.

I wonder if some of these guys would be rated higher or have more stars if they played in ‘04 and were recruited in ‘05. Know what I mean?

At the end of the day, I suppose it doesn’t matter anyway (but it’s a fun thought experiment!). I’m just thrilled with who we’re getting now and knowing the coaching they’ll get along the way. I haven’t been this ecstatic about Illinois football in a long time!

Biggest difference is that Bielema shows an ability to develop and hang on to the guys he gets. Zook was losing them left and right pre-portal, mainly from character issues that got them in trouble or led them to not fulfill their potential.

Agreed on the level of talent Zoom brought in. Unbelievable for a program of our current status to pull in the talent we are getting. You can’t predict Rashard, Benn , Vontae, Corey, Josh, Martez, success in NFL, but this glass is nuclear for this program! Props to Bret and the entire staff!

yup

IIRC, we had a 9 minute ball control drive to end the game. maybe one pass in that sequence or none ?
it was a masterpiece , in their house against a #1 team . Their fandom was in disbelief. it was perhaps the best quarter of football we have ever played
I remember that game like it was yesterday...I don't think I left my feet the entire game!!!! lol .. I can still feel the magic of that game!!!! Gives me goosebumps thinking about it!!!

2007 special no doubt. Illini protected that 7 point lead and ran off the final 8:09 in grind it out methodical fashion. Much party thereafter. Inspired me to attend Rose Bowl.

However, for cardiac exhilaration, while having the unwavering belief that Illini would win in the face of all odds against them, I’ll take 1983.

I've only been to one Illini football game. This was the one, lol. Helluva game and year.
