I remember Lovie put a lot of time and cache in St.Louis but a whole lot of the recruits Illinois got and didn't get were straight up BUSTS!! Ron Zook once said f you get 7 recruits from a 25 man class to be good in their college career then that recruiting class was a success.

Did these kids relocate? Those schools are not ones that kids from Glen Ellyn and Glendale Heights would typically attend. It’s not like Benet, Montini, St. Francis or Fenwick.
Indiana had a rule go into effect at the end of the school year that allows ALL kids to transfer to any school without permission. Sounds like Illinois did something similar?

they do, but to a much lesser degree than the top private schools do
fyi... here in NC my district HS lost a basketball championship & a baseball state title to out of district kids.

The basketball story is interesting, clearly blatant cheater, coach was a finance guy that was part of NC Gators AAU program that had a good chunk of UNC's 2005 team + a few other high level recruits on it, then went to Northern and stacked their team & that all came to a head, then went to Oak Ridge Military academy ( a small dying little school) and was trying to turn them into an Oak Hill level team, promised them a significant chunk of change for a new gym, & had a roster of blue chips signed up, when the feds caught up to him as he was attempting to flee the county on a Bernie Madof level Ponzi finance scam & he ended up in jail.

I heard the baseball was more an oversight & being under the spotlight from basketball. A couple end of the bench kids enrolled and school didn't do due diligence in checking. My son went through there a few years later & they had learned there lesson with proof of residency.

The other loop hole around here within the county is special magnet programs. Northern Guilford also had a very good football program, pro running back TJ Logan who was at UNC when we played them in Chapel Hill a few years back went through Northern Guilford. The rumor was that some of the football team had enrolled in some strange magnet program to get in Northern Guilford District. Not sure how much of that was recruiting or kids choice to play for one of the better local programs and one that was fairly successful at getting kids to the next level.

But don’t they have to live on the school’s boundaries? Seems like these kids do not live close to Glenbard West

Live in boundaries or pay tuition, essentially. Unless the student has previously attended the school and was moved out of district before their senior year started. In those instances, students are allowed to stay at their school but the family has to figure out transportation.

No! As long as you want to drive, it’s up to you. I had a kid that was in my small group (head of a high school church small group) and he transferred 35 minutes away for this season because he didn’t want to be QB1 on a lame team.
