Good point. I threw out BYU without looking based on geography but I am sure a slew of schools will be doing all they can to try and flip

I'm not 100%, but I believe he visited Colorado this month.

I am not qualified and will reply because that’s how the internet works lol.

Luke is good!

Hampton/ Boyd/ petty/transfer.
Hampton 1 year. Is he good enough? In this day and age if you can improve the position without destroying the room, need to do it with transfer.
Boyd- great reviews but a true Fresh. Is the staff ready to roll with Boyd for the next 4 years? If he works out-staff are geniuses. If he doesn’t a la Drew Allar, fan base will be restless and could get a coach fired.

Colorado is in a lower tier conference with a coach with questionable longterm status. Illinois has a lot to offer, so only a few programs IMHO to compete with since those programs likely already have top tier QBs already.

I've been very impressed with Mr. Lopati since the very first article and video clip I saw of him......He seems to be a great fit for our system as he has all the skills needed to prosper in the Illini scheme of offense......would love for him to come in and be a 4 year starter for us and help us become an annual contender for the playoffs.....I really really would.......

I'm hoping a couple of these prep guys work out and stick around long enough to play. Getting off the transfer QB carousel for even a couple years will really save big money for plug and play transfers at other positions.
You are always having to pay for the QB. If you have someone to keep you off the carousel, then other teams will try to poach him (Altmeyer and Tennessee this year).

while this is true, you can't negate the possibility of a "lesser" program dropping a (bigger) bag. am not suggesting that money is the only factor, but it's usually pretty important

Agree with you Pru on all but one point....I would rather have him come in and be a 3 year starter and then go in one of the early rounds of the NFL Draft after his Junior year.

I am very confident that there is a discount rate for retention QBs compared to portal additions. Lots of professional sport player migration data and the supply-demand factor we see within the current portal supports that belief.
This is also true for regular people with regular jobs. There is tons of data showing that you get more money moving around than staying in one place. And it makes sense: there is a convenience and comfort to staying in a familiar setting, and a risk that a move won't work out, so people that are happy in their current circumstances need the money to be sufficiently better to justify a move (obviously different situation if a person is unhappy with their current circumstances).

Yeah that's the part I don't expect to be repeatable. Will players take 5-10% less to stay? Sure. 25% less? Maybe. Turn down double? 99% of players are gone.

Tough to say … Luke doesn’t necessarily need the money if that makes sense … There are a lot of kids in that scenario and even more that aren’t obviously …

That plays a huge factor …

Another example of a discount kid … Hank Beatty … Kid doesn’t need the money … Little extra in the pocket don’t hurt obviously but he’s not making demands …
