Good point. I threw out BYU without looking based on geography but I am sure a slew of schools will be doing all they can to try and flipIt's possible, but BYU has a 5-star QB committed in 2026.

My old home town! Brings back memories of Kris Jenner and Steve Lanter.
Colorado is in a lower tier conference with a coach with questionable longterm status. Illinois has a lot to offer, so only a few programs IMHO to compete with since those programs likely already have top tier QBs already.I'm not 100%, but I believe he visited Colorado this month.
Is the plan for Hampton to bridge a year?Would like to see an in-depth evaluation of our quarterback room by one of our insiders, or anyone else who feels qualified.
I've been very impressed with Mr. Lopati since the very first article and video clip I saw of him......He seems to be a great fit for our system as he has all the skills needed to prosper in the Illini scheme of offense......would love for him to come in and be a 4 year starter for us and help us become an annual contender for the playoffs.....I really really would.......

You are always having to pay for the QB. If you have someone to keep you off the carousel, then other teams will try to poach him (Altmeyer and Tennessee this year).I'm hoping a couple of these prep guys work out and stick around long enough to play. Getting off the transfer QB carousel for even a couple years will really save big money for plug and play transfers at other positions.

True, but we're paying him less than he would have commanded on the open market. You are always having to pay for the QB. If you have someone to keep you off the carousel, then other teams will try to poach him (Altmeyer and Tennessee this year).

Agree with you Pru on all but one point....I would rather have him come in and be a 3 year starter and then go in one of the early rounds of the NFL Draft after his Junior year.I've been very impressed with Mr. Lopati since the very first article and video clip I saw of him......He seems to be a great fit for our system as he has all the skills needed to prosper in the Illini scheme of offense......would love for him to come in and be a 4 year starter for us and help us become an annual contender for the playoffs.....I really really would.......
That’s only true is they are willing to take a discount like Luke.
This is also true for regular people with regular jobs. There is tons of data showing that you get more money moving around than staying in one place. And it makes sense: there is a convenience and comfort to staying in a familiar setting, and a risk that a move won't work out, so people that are happy in their current circumstances need the money to be sufficiently better to justify a move (obviously different situation if a person is unhappy with their current circumstances).I am very confident that there is a discount rate for retention QBs compared to portal additions. Lots of professional sport player migration data and the supply-demand factor we see within the current portal supports that belief.
Yeah that's the part I don't expect to be repeatable. Will players take 5-10% less to stay? Sure. 25% less? Maybe. Turn down double? 99% of players are gone.Luke, Gabe and X all took a lot less money to stay. BB has done a great job with retention but money talks. Tennessee offered more than double what we pay Luke
insiders, we gonna get this one across the finish line?
