Florida is my second school so I watch all of their games. I understand the appeal of a highly rated recruit and of course players can develop later in their careers and with a change of scenery, but Lagway was absolutely awful this year.
Got my MBA at Florida after undergrad at Illinois so my second school as well. DJ was hurt all Spring/Summer and he was terrible. Portrayed as a dual-threat QB but anything but as he is “heavy” and not very mobile. It doesn’t help when Billy Napier is calling the plays. Wish DJ the best but a change is best for everyone at UF. Don’t think he is the guy for the Illini but he does have a high upside.

He was great as a true frosh. He then had a major surgery and got zero reps in the spring and camp before struggling as a sophomore. I would happily take on Lagway knowing the tools are immense, he already showed ability against elite competition, and bank on the injuries and shoddy coaching as something that can be solved.

It's going to be expensive, but Lagway's ceiling is worth it.

^ 100% Lagway has his flaws like any QB but skillset (and no disrespect to Luke) has a massively higher ceiling than Luke.

If BLJ stays he could do wonders with Lagway. That situation at Florida was the Titanic the moment they retained Napier for '25.

He'll obviously be highly sought after by many top tier programs but would be an awesome get for the program.

Both my kids go to UF so I have personally watched his career and I would say I would much rather look to see if his backup hits the portal, I think he would be much more valuable. DJ is a pocket passer at best (Napier killed any running instinct he ever had) but his accuracy doesn't match that profile. He is a great kid but I don't think the money to move him to our beloved team would be worth it. I think he is either Texas (back home) or South Beach bound if I had to guess.
