Bret went out east and watched him play liveThey have been keeping tabs on this one for awhile now
He was also a big Tennessee target before they hunted Altmyer and Veer and Shoot QB which could make an Auburn target and maybe a Gamecocks if they lose Sellers. He will make a ton of money after seeing his stats. https://www.espn.com/college-football/player/_/id/4685401/josh-hoover
BLJ would do wonders for DJ Lagway.
I’m hoping the way to read this is that there will be changes to RB room but not a complete overhaul. That group is not elite.Just looked him up, has to be one of the best backup RBs in P4. Interesting recruiting background (was looking if Illinois offered out of HS - did not), with a lot of smaller school offers (SIU, Lindenwood, really good FCS programs), G5 programs all over the map (Air Force, Arkansas State), and then a couple big offers (first offer was from FSU and Arizona State, last offer was from Mizzou). The timing of these offers are unusual. Usually you see a cluster of offers from similar programs as the player sends out their film. His timeline doesn't really reflect that. Every month he would get 1-3 offers from schools across the country. Nothing crazy, just a little different than what I usually see.
That said, if Illinois is hellbent on completely reshaping their RB room (I don't think they are), this would be a great starting point.
It's early in the transfer portal season, but (a) there's a greater amount of good QBs already announced in the portal than I expected, and (b) I have high expectations for Illinois to land someone highly regarded based on the increased supply and discussion about greater $$ infused into the program than before.
I wouldn't classify the Harvard QB as checking that last box.
I think the hope is that as we work our way up the food chain, we don't have to take on as much risk with the players we obtain. Luke's first year was our only down year in the last 4, all the talk of increased NIL and 8+ wins 3 of the last 4 seasons should hopefully translate to a top-tier QB to come in and keep the progress pointed up.Understandable, but on the flip side... this staff did great getting both DeVito and Luke. I wouldn't call either of those guys highly regarded either at the time either.
No reason not to trust the staffs eval on QBs right now.
It’s not always about highly regarded, but more about best fit for the program.Understandable, but on the flip side... this staff did great getting both DeVito and Luke. I wouldn't call either of those guys highly regarded either at the time either.

Possibly one of the worst decisions by a player in the transfer era. Worked out extremely well for Luke and us.yea, three years ago everyone seemed to prefer Hudson Card over Luke . glad that went our way
