Seeing how the defense performed against Tennessee with 3 weeks of prep gave me a little more faith in Henry but I still question how much Bielema took the reins after the Washington game. Hopefully with talent upgrades here in the portal and possible position coach changes we can see a clear difference next season.

Get Houser and then receivers and OL will all fall in place. No reason not to trust Bielema’s plan at this point. We’ve been competitive with less talent than the top 6 of the BIG but have still found ourselves sitting solidly in that top 6 imo. Happy portal season!

Carter is better than Coenen. It’s looking that it might have been a talent issue instead of a Henry issue. We were slow and not very athletic on the defensive side. There is a reason why wee redshirted much of the freshmen class. Withy the additions we hav e added on D so far, I can see why people are leaving.
Maybe, but we could of done more stunting and blitzing. When we did that the defense did better. When we sat back and played zone with DBS playing ten yds off receivers with no pressure, then we stunk it up. I think scheme did play into it too.

personally I dont expect this team to be very competitive in 2026, why not give boyd the most reps possible this year?

I'm all in on Katin Houser. Kid is a baller. Reminds me of Luke with a bigger arm on the deep ball. He's got some John Mateer in him, too.

Originally a Michigan State 4-star recruit. I didn't realize that. Sign me up.

I know what you’re saying . but Bret hates to give up quick scores and likes to limit the other teams possessions to 4-5 per half . some of the D strategy comes from the top

I agree and then you throw in only rushing 3, giving opposing QB's all day to find an open receiver. I believe you need to put pressure on QB's and force them into mistakes. Is that going to cost you some big pays? Absolutely, but we made average QB's look like Heisman candidates by not getting any pressure on them.

whats the scouting report on houser
I’ll give it a shot-

Arm talent stands out as he’s able to make all the throws, he was the 13th ranked QB in his class coming out of HS so the talent level is there

He does relatively well under pressure with a 73.6 passing grade under pressure, he only took 14 sacks last year, which was obviously a weak point for Luke. He does a good job using his feet under pressure and throwing the ball away, he can make the off-platform throws on the run as well

He’s a willing runner with over 300 yards on the ground and 9 TDs- he’s a bit quicker and stronger runner than Luke (he’s bigger). He has 3 year starting experience which is a huge plus

Downside is he’s stepping up in competition and while his accuracy is good, maybe a step below Luke.

All in all I think incorporating his running into the game plan like we did the second half this year and my expectation is that he can have a similar statistical year as Luke did last year

I am going with the combination of both, definitely coaching and lack of dudes on the defensive side of the ball.

With a solid foundation at QB, hopefully that will open the doors for some solid WR transfers and give us a window of opportunity to nail this portal season.

There’s plenty of room for improvement but I can see a high ceiling. The staff is proving they are pretty good at roster construction and continue to follow the blueprint for success.

House that?🤓
Some may think you’re a nut, and bolt the thread. Screw those guys, you nailed it.

I’m just wondering if you condo any more?

Any chance this puts us at the top of the list for his former teammate?

Could FINALLY be the dynamic TE we have sought after....

To a certain extent, I'd argue that lack of talent is also a Henry issue.

The portal is just making $ on the open market a major factor. Saban left at the right t8me knowing certain schools have such a major advantage. Primarily the Oil billionaires universities and the Oregons and Arkansas too. Having grown up n CU and lived in the top of Texas. Its just nuts hiw much money they have out there all over the place. They have a huge advantage at those places
A lot more $$ there

How much money for Houser? $1Mil tops?

Money (at any position) makes billed “competition” in Spring a lot less open feeling. Hampton and Boyd will see the writing on the wall with their next to $0 earnings, while coaches will feel the pressure to justify their big expenditure by starting him, or else eating crow.

Nature of the beast I suppose.
