I realized this a couple of years ago when a handful of players transferred outside of the portal period.food for thought:
I'm not advocating for anything here, just think that these fellows have interesting observations

any update on the Wagner lad from St Joe-Ogden ?An in-state OL recruit.
At 6'-7" & 295 lbs., Soren Fifer is one LARGE young man.
Give him a year or so in Tank Wright's shop, and add a few lbs., . . . I like it.
Which means we may be adding DLs before summer practice. Great explanation. The portal is purely for "Legal" Recruiting Contact. Players can come and go as they please outside the portal window. They just can't talk directly to other schools without being in the portal.
People really need to understand what the portal is and isn't. Just because someone isn't in the portal before the window closes, doesn't mean they can't go somewhere else. Just because someone is here for spring ball, doesn't mean they can't leave over the summer. Just because they are on the team in the fall, doesn't mean they can't decide to sit out and redshirt/leave the team. They aren't truly locked in for the year until they've played 5 games in a season.
