I want a few proven guys added to the front 7. We all do.

But I also know this staff will absolutely maximize the talent that’s on the roster.

According to 247, our 4th and 5th year seniors on this year’s team were from the 82nd and 73rd ranked recruiting classes.

These programs had better classes over those 2 years:

- Appalachian State
- Fresno State
- Toledo
- Louisiana Tech
- Southern Miss
- FIU
- Along with all 17 B1G teams

Yet, we still won 9 games and beat an SEC team in a bowl game.

I realize we had some transfer help too, Luke especially, but so did every other team we were competing against.

Here’s the recruiting classes we have on next year’s roster:

- #46
- #38
- #49
- #46
- #23

So recruiting has definitely picked up and we’ve added a lot in the portal as well. We’re a few solid pieces on the defensive front away from another good year.

Farrell is very good. I project him as a Dean Lowry type now that he is an upperclassmen. Muragin and others make me not worried about those lower rankings (Despite a few departures) because the development has now reached the point where those rankings won't matter.

There is definitely an uptick incoming though. They're living in basically the 5.7 star range which is where you want to be if you aren't getting all out 5 stars. Illinois has thrived on these type of similarly ranked players in the past in limited portions. Now with basically a class full (And a staff to maximize that talent), they're right there.

It's why the '27 class is the litmus for me. Get Cook-Johnson, Parks, Brown, Wagner, J.Johnson, etc. etc. and that is the base of a CFP contender.

We just ran the the correlation between Freshman recruiting star ranking by school and CFP appearance. The correlation between top 15 Freshman recruitng class and CFP berth has gone from .75 to .58. Still statistically significant but no longer a predictor of a team getting to the playoffs. NIL data really only has 3 years to it, so I can't get a true correlation on that yet.

Wow. Almost 60% of the time we allowed the opponent to convert on 3rd and long! Thats unacceptable.

Reflection of many/all things including coverage, pass rush and scheme too.
What was main culprit do we think? I’m not quite sure in my mind.

I have read this $$$ figure for Houser a few times on this board. If true, how do you think Luke feels knowing he is likely twice the QB of Houser but only made 1/3 of the $$$?
Different markets - now revenue sharing ups the pool for all schools and the market in general has gotten crazy. Luke might lament that timing that it don’t happen when he was still here, but I doubt there are any negative feelings toward the university.

He had an opportunity to go to Tennessee for more money last year and turned it down, so why would he feel bad about not making more money? He seemed to focus on where he was happy and what would best prepare him for the next level

Me thinks he might have got a little boost after Tenn attention...

The paper work needed to be into the school but that doesn't mean it was processed that day. There was talk that we wouldn't know the final entrants until Tuesday or Wednesday this week. So I think we should know everyone now.

For those wanting to bash 247's talent evaluation model, here is the best cannon fodder:

Pretty crazy that MN and MSU are that high. Fleck is solid with what he has to work with in talent, I don't think it's as high as #11th. We shall see if Rhule is still around by the time Taylor gets there, he hasn't done much with the "talent" he assembled.

5.1 GPA? I'm not sure how to interpret that... They used to max out at 4.0. Then I'd hear some schools maxed out at 5.0 giving an extra pt for AP. What would a 5.1 GPA as a sophomore based on freshman year grades even mean?
Apparently his school district uses a weighted 6-point scale.

he’s either really really smart or really good at finger painting and the art teacher likes him

Thanks! That's a crazy system I have never heard of or seen before. So just for reference, their 6-point scale is just for standard classes. Accelerated goes up to 7.0 and Advanced up to 8.0! So at his school, getting all B-'s in just regular classes is a 4.0. Meaning he could be anywhere from an A- student in normal classes or a B- student in honors classes.

Weird system, wonder how the school agreed an that one.
