Has anyone heard a total roster spend number for 2026? Not just a message board rumor but a number from someone in the know.

Bret openly said they were at 15m for 2025.

Nakos put out an article last week saying several programs are now at $40M. I’m worried Illini aren’t close to that. Don’t see how they can get to the next tier of BIG without getting close to $25M-$30M.

On that same line of thinking, does anyone know why they are so far behind on the collective deals? Are donors tapped out and there is no more money? Is the collective not asking the correct people? Are Bret and Josh ok with the level of $ they are at and don’t want to go higher? Is everyone at the athletic office ok with winning 7-9 games annually?

I’m reading the parks kids from BR rice and the Wagner kid from SJO don’t have spring visit dates lined up, are the Illini that far behind on money already that these kids aren’t interested?

Did they spend it all on the class of 2025 for HS and they don’t have anything for 2026 besides Lopati?

One thing to think about is with the number of Seniors and certain people who are at other schools, there is more capital to allocate that is for certain. The $15 mm by the way is a 300% jump from 2023. But it just shows you how far behind we are when comparing ourselves to other competitive programs.

Our available funds is an interesting topic. But, in-state recruiting is oddly feeling a bit like the pre-Bielema days. But, in this case, it seems to be a matter of budget vs. historic track record

Folorunsho might have the widest range of rankings I've ever seen across the major recruiting platforms. Rivals has him as the #2 DL in the country! 247 has him as the 80th DL.

If we get Knowles, we will have gotten a player from at least three high schools from my Mount Rushmore of football helmets

Knowles- Southlake Carroll

Kaedyn Cobbs- Denton Guyer

Of course- a few Fisher Bunnies

Just curious, has their been a Massillion OH Tiger that wore this helmet for the Illini?

I'm not sure who wore the helmet but Brian Gamble was a contributor on the Rose Bowl team from Massilion.

For one it would be class of 2026 and class of 2027.

We are recruiting Wagner and it looks like he plans to visit, we just don't have a date yet:

Parks just named us in his top-5 a few days ago. So while he might not a firm date scheduled, I'm guessing he will visit.

And we just signed a large, and good, class. I wouldn't be surprised if the strategy were to bring in a smaller class this year, and maybe focus on quality and transfers. Let's keep it in perspective. By composite, Lopati is rated higher than any recruit we brought in in the 2026 class, and Wagner and Parks would be higher than anyone except Hankins. We are going to face competition.

You are correct on the class years, my mistake.

I'm not optimistic and don't see it as a good sign that the visit dates aren't set yet, doesn't pass the smell test to me. Lopati seems to be doing a lot of flirting as well. He could very easily shut everything down and tell those other schools no thank you.

With 2 DL starters transferring out, K transferring out, and a very slow start to the 2027 class, just doesn't add up with the wins on the field. Even if they are planning to bring on a smaller 2027 class, I would have guessed 3-4 guys would have already verballed.

We aren’t favored by Rivals for any of the in-state top 25.
Calm down. It's way to early to worry about recruiting. I have no idea why Illini fans continue to question Bielema. The man is 37-26 in his five years here. Lovie Smith was right to do what he did when it came to Illinois high school recruiting. He saw the bull!!!! hut Bielema is more patient because he has been a college head coach for over 18 years. Why pay a unproven high school player a lot of money when that recruit hasn't performed on the college level. Indiana was successful these last 2 years because of the portal and they had the oldest team in college football. I would love for somebody to research the top Illinois high school players that Bielema missed out on these last 5 years and give us their status so far in college and I guarantee most of them have been BUSTS and don't play a significant role on their college team. That is why Illinois has hit Florida, Texas, New Jersey and Ohio hard.
