People don’t realize how good Boyd will be …
It does feel like the initial practice reviews for Boyd are the most positive we've had for a new HS QB entering the program since Scheelhaase. Even though we don't see these guys it's almost always a yes or a no right away and Boyd seizing the #2 spot is clearly a "yes".

I’ll take the high road silver lining approach on Lopati.

He might be the best QB prospect to come to Illinois but if we aren’t intending to start him the cap space he’s going to command is almost certainly astronomical. Perhaps I’m off but paying that for a backup feels like mismanagement of funds.

While it’s fun and exciting and should be expected to get great talent here, I’d think repurposing his funds on impact transfers would be a good alternative.

Is there a good reason why not? I have no insider information to work off.

Bielema was college roommates with the guy that just got fired at Kentucky. He knows the issues there and being at a lower tier SEC job. Lunney was on staff at UTSA with Stein. He knows his flaws.

Is Kentucky that far ahead with money? The Illini qb job will be wide open for 2027. Last two full time starters at Illinois will be in the NFL, decent chance Houser plays his way to being a 6th-7th round pick also.

Why not Illinois?

Because we haven’t recruited him and it’s very late in the game to get involved. Most prep qbs end their recruitment by spring. Trae was our top priority then we pivoted to Lopati. At this point it wouldn’t surprise me if we don’t bring in a prep qb in 2027 if Lopati decommits.

24 TFL? How many games do TX high schools play in a season?
Ten games in a eleven week format (which includes one open/bye week in the regular season....if they make it to championship of their respective classification the schools could play up to sixteen games.

Werner took Lopati off the list of this weekend's visitors

Things just don't make much sense to me with all that is happening. We are coming off a great 2 -year stretch and it feels like we still haven't gotten over hump with things in someways. Everything is a struggle with us in recruiting all the time. We didn't get the TE from STL that we thought we had a good chance at, and now we are going to lose our star QB commit. It just feels like everything is just so damn hard for us, even when we start turning things around. You would think that we are here at the point that these players would love to come to Illinois, but everything is so hard for us for some reason. I know that we had a real good recruiting class last year, but you have to do it year after year. It's still early (somewhat) and we could end with another good class, but it's like pulling teeth right now with us.

BTW, i just saw that we had 12 commits by Mid April last year. This is a little depressing.
