If Boyd is as good as advertised, we will be fine. Houser this year and Boyd the next 2 years. Could Boyd beat out Houser? Competition at the QB position is a good thing. It’s always good to have two quality QBs ready and available.

Bigger ranking difference, Lopati with Illinois vs Michigan or Blackwell with Illinois vs Duke?
If the staff thought Boyd was good enough, they wouldn’t have brought in Houser in the first place. I don’t get the impression at all that they think he’s a starter. They didn’t even trust him to backup last year

Oh I don't think that's fair at all in terms of timeline.
The big thing that indicates that the staff has confidence in Boyd based on what they saw from him as a true freshman (which is the trial by fire period behind the scenes) is that Ethan Hampton left. We could have easily paid him more than Southern Miss if needed to have confidence in our QB two-deep.
Your Trey Petty's and Cal Swanson's and Donovan Leary's never had that belief inside the building. It's not just insider bluster, concrete roster choices are giving us a signal that Boyd is different.
I hope Houser takes every snap but statistically speaking that's probably 50/50. We're ready to play Boyd right now.

sublime eval by Art. sucks that Lopati has shined so bright that the big boys want him. that said, I'd be very uncomfortable paying a true frosh what he'll get. it's simply not shrewd business. at least not for an upper middle tier program, dollar wise.
Michigan won't start him as a freshman unless they believe they can't do better. It's likely they will have someone at least as good if not better on the roster at the same time. Places like Michigan stack the QB position with 4 and 5 stars. I'd be surprised if Lopati is decommitting over potential playing time. He very well could get recruited over there.

Well, THAT may be a bit of an overstatement given that one-and-dones are cheaper and we had needs elsewhere, but the point stands, the staff sees Boyd as a B1G starting caliber QB.
2/3 of the starting B1G qb's suck. Hopefully he's a better caliber than that
