I don’t think we are in a position to spend big $$ on an incoming frosh that likely won’t play for a couple of years. Seems like the majority of starting P4 QBs are transfers anyways.

Best of luck to him. There’s nothing to say we couldn’t be an option in the portal in a couple of years.

Illinois football doesn't have much money, regardless of what some have reported.

The bulk of the donor money is going to hoops.
And as a football guy, this pisses me off to no end. We finally have turned things around with a real good coach, and yet, They are being treated like the red headed step child. If i were Bret, i would leave. Why stay here knowing he is getting screwed over money wise? I think he has given some subtle hints about it. He's mentioned a few times that we don't have a enough money to compete with the big boys. I would be pissed if i were him, and maybe he is and is just keeping it hidden inside.

With the money we have we can’t commit several million for a prep qb. It sucks but I get it. If we are spending 20 million on our roster we can’t have 2-3 million tied up with a freshman qb on the bench.

I've posted this before, so this isn't sour grapes after losing someone, but for a program of our stature, high school quarterback recruiting honestly does not matter that much.

Our own high school recruits have thrown exactly one pass in the Bielema era that actually impacted the outcome of a game.

Hijacked by an ex-Ute coach plus cash

Utes fans are some the most delusional on Twitter, especially the ones that think they are going to the Big XII....

Why does it have to go to one or the other? No other major schools (Or schools that identify themselves as much) has those types of problems.

?? There are very, very few schools that have deep enough pockets to spend top of market $$$ on both sports and see that return on investment.

Frankly, it's much easier to spend big $$$ on basketball and see it directly translate to winning. There's also only 15 roster spots (with maybe 8-9 guys actually getting NIL money) in comparison to what, 80 football spots?

Illinois is and always has been a basketball school. It's less of an investment financially for a school like us to win a championship in basketball vs football.

With this being said, if they are budgeting NIL funds and need the money to keep others (Example MJC), I'm all in. Lopati is pretty good but not the end all of QBs and as I keep saying I have a good confidence Carson Boyd is going to tear it up when he starts.
