I used to teach in Illinois for about 15 years. About 5 years ago I took a job teaching down in St. Louis. My first act was to Illinois the classroom up as much as possible. I had all sorts of posters and things to plaster all over the walls.

The big centerpiece was a huge banner I made that said “HAIL TO THE :chief:RANGE”.

I had about 100 people ask what “Hail to the range” means because they thought I just slapped the chief symbol in the middle of a slogan.

Not sure how this goes towards the conversation here, but damn…. Mizzou fans are stupid.

The color change will only go so far as the new 2023 unis will take it(at least for football) and I've liked the changes that Bret has made so far.

It's only been one season, but if Bret gets us to where we've only dreamed of being having an recognizable, singular helmet that will age nicely will be good for the brand I think.

I don't get the feeling that "they" are calling the shots this time. I get the feeling that we finally have people in charge (BB + JW, BU +JW) who know what they want and want it done their way and done right.

Something tells me this isn't change for the sake of change, but rather it is change by people in charge who believe the details are important and can be improved upon.

I get the feeling that whatever "rebranding" is afoot will impress a much larger portion of us than what was done in the past under the watch of a moron (TB) and a somewhat aloof pro-football man (LS).

With the change of color, is it wrong for me to expect them to unveil new uniforms this year instead of next year like they said? Why release the color change and make us wait a year?

The new orange is vastly superior and it's not even remotely close. Guess I don't understand the controversy other than that we keep changing our freaking school color.

Does MSU change it's shade of green? Does Purdue change it's shade if gold? Am I just missing these events in college basketball?

I am firmly on team navy pants for all road games

Ignoring the design elements and thinking only of the colors involved my preference is top left at home and bottom right on the road (But with the orange lid). No white pants or helmets ever, I know that's not the most popular take but it's my small hill to die on.

I am not a big of the blue helmet, something just looked off to me. I can get behind O-B-O and O-O-W for home and O-W-O, O-W-B, or all white for away; there is just something slick about all white with the orange I and lettering.

This is the happiest that I’ve felt about the beloved since they beat Penn State in 9OT. The red orange was Nike garbage, which is appropriate for Nike but not for Illinois. From my post years ago when Nike introduced that ridiculous non-Illinois orange:

“The Nike reddish-orange looks dirty and ugly in comparison to the original orange. The original Illini orange was so unique and identifiable that you could pick it out in a crowd of other orange hues. Paired with Illinois blue, that combo was bold, audacious, and visually striking - perfect school colors. The 2018 orange looks like Nike was trying to find a nice autumn bridesmaid dress color.

“If you were to take a group of fans wearing apparel from Syracuse, Clemson, Princeton, Texas, Oregon State, and Oklahoma State, and then stand them next to someone wearing the original Illinois colors, your first reaction might be, ‘Woah – Illinois is orange.’”

Illinois has always had the fantastic marketing position of basically owning a secondary color. You don’t make it a reddish-version of that color in a league filled with red. You expletive own orange. The new 2022 hue is fantastic. And now all my old school sweatshirts are new school.

Apparently MSU does.
