I was thinking this, too, but I just saw our social media post another picture of a player in O/B/O and the Script helmet ... I would be surprised if we waited to use it again until the bowl game now, which is sort of the opposite of how I felt yesterday. :ROFLMAO: This is my updated wild stab at what we choose to wear through the OSU game. I mostly went with what I thought would happen, with ONE pretty obvious exception of what I HOPE will happen ... gotta be an optimist!!

vs. Western Illinois ... confidence level medium. I think they'll wear the "Citrus Bowl uniform" to kick things off this year.

at Duke ... confidence level VERY high. This seemed to really find a home as our go-to road uniform last season.
View attachment 42992

vs. Western Michigan ... confidence level medium. Could be Block I or the Script again, but I feel like this staff loves Slant ILLINOIS, and we surprisingly have never worn it with the navy yet!
View attachment 42994

at Indiana ... confidence level so low that it is almost certainly wishful thinking, but I'll proclaim that we FINALLY get #BPOTR (and I'll spam them every day leading up to it just to make sure! ;)). However, I think they stick with Slant ILLINOIS over the Arched ILLINI look.

vs. USC (Homecoming) ... confidence level medium. 99% sure Homecoming will feature the standard O/B/O, but the helmet is anyone's guess. When in doubt, assume Bret chooses Slant ILLINOIS.
View attachment 42994

at Purdue ... confidence level medium. The confidence level for O/W/O is pretty high, but the Script helmet is the less-sure aspect.

vs. Ohio State (Orange Out) ... confidence level VERY high. We wore a version of Slant ILLINOIS both times we busted out the orange uniforms last year, and I would be absolutely shocked if we didn't decided to once again pair it with the orange pants instead of (my preferred) white.

So my hottest takes here are definitely...

1. The staff finally gives us #BPOTR at Indiana.
2. We don't see the Block I helmet until after the OSU game (I will guess we give it a pity turn vs. Rutgers).

Fighter, I hereby challenge you to a 2025 uniform prediction challenge and propose the following terms:

Correct helmet decal: +3
Correct jersey: +1
Correct pants: +2
Bonus points for all 3: +2

Should you choose to accept, let me know if you think there should be any rule changes. Submissions due by end of weekend.

Well, UNFORTUNATELY I would need someone to provide me with the Block I version of these helmet pics. :ROFLMAO:

For some reason, I only saved the Script, Slant ILLINOIS and Arched ILLINI when somebody kindly provided us with these! Then I just copy/pasted the different helmet/pants I wanted for a given combo.

EDIT:

It looks like it was @CaptainCrutch that provided us with these awesome templates! However, there was no Block I helmet. I unfortunately think it will definitely make a few appearances this year, so that would be an essential part of any prediction!

You're the man, thanks! For those interested in guessing next year, this was our lineup in order last season:

vs. Eastern Illinois
OBO Block I.jpeg

vs. #19 Kansas (Orange Out)
OOO Slant.jpeg

vs. Central Michigan
OBO Arch.jpeg

at #22 Nebraska
OWO Slant.jpeg

at #9 Penn State
OWO Slant.jpeg

vs. Purdue*
OBB Block I.jpeg

vs. #24 Michigan
[Grange Era Throwback Uniform]

at #1 Oregon
OWW Block I.jpeg

vs. Minnesota (Veterans Day Game)
OOO Slant VDay.jpeg

vs. Michigan State
OBO Block I.jpeg

at Rutgers
OWO Slant.jpeg

vs. Northwestern (Chicago, IL)**
OWO Block I.jpeg

vs. #15 South Carolina (Citrus Bowl)
OBO Script.jpeg

* Wore Butkus Era helmet, but I didn't have a screenshot of that.
** Wore a Wrigley/ivy-themed version of the Block I helmet.

I'm doing this from memory/educated guesses, but I think the following games were "taken" as far as helmets:
1) Kansas was designated for Slant ILLINOIS preseason.
2) Central Michigan was designated for Arched ILLINI preseason.
3) Purdue was designated for Butkus Era preseason.
4) Michigan was designated for Grange Era preseason.
5) Michigan State was designated for Block I preseason.
6) I am counting the Ivy Block I helmet as "planned" for Northwestern.
7) It at least SEEMS like the Script helmet was deliberately held back/planned for the bowl game ... so I am counting that one, too.

I am also counting the Slant ILLINOIS Veterans Day helmet as a "choice" by the program, in that we wore an American-themed Block I helmet the previous year ... so they made a deliberate choice to incorporate the Slant ILLINOIS design that week. So, of the remaining 6 games that were "open" or whatever, the helmet count is...
- 4 for Slant ILLINOIS (at Nebraska, at Penn State, vs. Minnesota, at Rutgers)
- 2 for Block I (vs. Eastern Illinois, at Oregon)

I think it's safe to say Slant ILLINOIS is the "favorite" for the staff, especially on the road.

And if anyone would like to see 2023, when we only had the Block helmet in the rotation...

vs. Toledo
OBO Block I.jpeg

at Kansas
OWW Block I.jpeg

vs. #7 Penn State (Orange Out)*
OBO Block I.jpeg

vs. FAU
OBB Block I.jpeg

at Purdue
OWW Block I.jpeg

vs. Nebraska
OBB Block I.jpeg

at Maryland
OWW Block I.jpeg

vs. Wisconsin
OBO Block I.jpeg

at Minnesota
OWW Block I.jpeg

vs. Indiana (Veterans Day)**
OOO Block I.jpeg

at Iowa
OWW Block I.jpeg

vs. Northwestern
OBO Block I.jpeg

* If memory serves, our orange jerseys were not ready in time for the "Orange Out" game vs. PSU ... so we just wore navy, lol.
** We actually wore an American-flag-themed Block I helmet vs. Indiana for Veterans Day.

So we clearly had way more preference for the white pants on the road in 2023! I had forgotten that we never even saw our orange pants on the road until Nebraska last year. To compare 2023 away games were 5 white pants vs. 0 orange pants, and 2024 was 4 orange pants vs. 1 white pants. Personally, I HATE the O/W/W look, so I am hoping the beatdown at Oregon last year retired that combo for a while, haha.

This is such an amazing look at how much better slant ILLINOIS and script are than the Block I. There's a place for the Block I, but maybe once or twice a year away games?

From last year I replace the Block I with slant ILLINOIS @ Oregon O/W/W, and with Script @Purdue O/B/B.

Edit: also think there's still a place for the Butkus era number helmets. Homecoming?

Here are my predictions (Jersey/Pant/Helmet logo)

Western Illinois - Blue/Orange/Slant
Duke - White/Orange/Slant
Western Michigan - Blue/Orange/Slant
Indiana - White/Blue/Arched (I'm voting with my heart instead of my head)
USC - Blue/Orange/Block I (But I'd love to see Orange/White/Script)
Purdue - White/Orange/Slant
Ohio State - Orange/Orange/Slant (Orange Out uniform)
Washington - White/White/Slant (I don't want to see this, but I think we'll see this look once)
Rutgers - Blue/Orange/Slant
Maryland - Blue/Blue/Slant (perhaps with a military theme)
Wisconsin - White/Orange/Slant
Northwestern - Blue/Orange/Slant

So overall, I think we'll see a much more standard and traditional look with fewer deviations from the norm. Orange pants are the standard. I'd love to see orange jerseys and white pants once this season, and I think we'll save the script for postseason games. I'd also like to just stick with the regular blue/white/blue stripes on the helmet no matter what decal is used. I'm a big fan of consistency, and seeing a three-stripe design on the pants and jerseys (which I'm a big fan of) with the "five stripes" on the arched Illini helmet is a little inconsistent.

If I am voting with my head, I think we'll see white/orange/slant for Indiana, but I'd really like to see the blue pants and arched Illini for a game. I bet if we break that out and win, we'd see it a little more often because I think it would be a fantastic look for big road games.

I don't like the unis that have the same color for top and bottom. I'm just too old and traditional I guess.
