Illinois Football Uniforms

Trying to get my mind off of that travesty, lol ... so after last night, we have crossed off the O/W/O + Script combo, and these are the only remaining "standard" combos that we have not yet seen since getting the new uniforms in 2023. I'm going to exclude helmets we have not worn more than once (e.g., Arched ILLINI or Butkus Era), "special" helmets (e.g., Veterans Day or Wrigley-themed ones) or pants combos that I just don't feel are on this staff's radar (e.g., O/B/W and, sadly, O/W/B). I will include white pants with the orange jerseys, though; I think the staff likes our current white pants (we wore them on the road EVERY game in 2023), but they now feel superstitious about them on the road after the Oregon blowout (then again, maybe Saturday's game might have a similar effect...). Anyway:

Of these, the only one(s) I am fairly certain we will see this year is the Slant ILLINOIS and a navy jersey - very likely for Homecoming this weekend. Given how often we have worn Slant ILLINOIS, it's somewhat surprising it has never been paired with the home uniform. I believe my preseason uniform predictions had us going O/B/O and Slant ILLINOIS for Homecoming, and if so I am sticking with that. I also think we very well could see Slant ILLINOIS and/or Script with O/W/W since our "good streak" of road games with orange pants just came to an end.

o/w/o imo fits these uniforms a lot better even if the striping does not match the jersey (though they do match the helmet). I was fine with the o/w/w for the Lovie minimalist set since it kind of went with the look but I think with these you need the orange pants. It also seems like the team has realized that.

I would not support Slant ILLINOIS as the only full-time helmet only because I really like both the Script and Arched ILLINI. However, if you gave me the choice of the current status quo with the Block I and included OR only wearing Slant ILLINOIS ... I think I'd take the deal to rock Slant ILLINOIS full-time.

I'm officially on the bandwagon that "tall" logos look terrible on helmets, and "wide" logos look a lot better. It doesn't HAVE to be wording (whether italic, slant or whatever), but it kind of does in our case, given the Block I.

Cross off #1 from this list as of the USC game! There are now only two navy combos from that list that we have not seen:

Given that the OSU game is an "Orange Out," I am sure we will wear our all-orange uniforms, almost certainly with Slant ILLINOIS but I guess Script could be a wild card. I would be very surprised if the Northwestern Senior Day home game isn't just a standard O/B/O, which we have now seen with every helmet.

As for my uniform predictions, I am now 4-1 with a close miss for the Indiana game given we surprised everyone with the Script.
- Western Illinois: O/B/O & Block I
- at Duke: O/W/O & Slant ILLINOIS
- vs. Western Michigan: O/B/O & Block I
- at Indiana: O/W/O & Slant ILLINOIS
- vs. USC: O/B/O & Slant ILLINOIS

This is what I had for at Purdue, so we will see...

My updated guess would probably be that we wear our orange pants and stick with the Block I helmet. However, I am going to be bold and guess that for the OSU game we MIGHT get this as a planned surprise to honor the last time we actually beat them in Champaign ... fingers crossed:

I'd give you 90% credit for the Indiana prediction! No way anyone saw that one coming.

The question is, will we see the script helmet again or was the beatdown enough to push it the back of the equipment closet?

I support the arched helmets for OSU.

Hopefully the scripts come back for the Playoff 😉
