I actually like the O/B/W combo in theory, as I am in general somewhat of a sucker for a football uniform that utilizes three different colors for the helmet, jersey and pants ... hence my fierce support for #BPOTR. I do think, though, the white pants work a LOT better when the number on the navy jersey is orange ... and vice versa. Thus, with the current set, the orange pants work better.

Have you ever asked your parents why they didn't hold you back a year in school so you could have been a senior in fall '83?!

When I listened to this, I assumed he believed it was going to be a sizable different uniform. What I mean is I don't think he would say that if Bret showed him a different combo of O-B-W, but something bolder.

So my review is that I don’t LOVE these. I’m glad we are using arched Illini in a helmet this season. I think arched Illini and slant Illinois should be our two co-primary helmets.

That said first thing I’m unsure about is the white letters. I really don’t like the white letters on the script Illinois, but I do like them on slant Illinois. I think the blue looks better. But if they are wearing orange uniforms then I think I’m ok with it.

Next, while each of the patriotic touches are all really solid, I don’t think I love them all as a package. Last years was so clean with the subtle blue stars. Here, you have a red white and blue flag, AND green camo stripe, AND we list out 6+ branches of service. I feel like there could be a way to pull it off sticking with our colors. Like is it ok to make and orange and blue American flag? Could we have done orange or blue camo instead?

If that’s allowed, I feel like that’s how you take a good idea that is ok in practice and take it to an elite level. I give it a B+, which is still way better than our pre-Bielema patriotic uniform efforts.

Yep. Looks like a 5-year old slapped a bunch of stickers on a helmet. Too many elements that don't go together at all. Do we really need THREE flags?

I would have liked to see the blue arched Illini with the orange jerseys just to see how it would look. That said, I’m not really against the white lettering.

Agree regarding the backside. I think if they had just left off the green military branch stickers it would have been fine. The green stickers are too much, clash color-wise, and are a bit superflous anyway.
