Illinois Golf 2023-24

Alright time to turn the page on the '23 season.

Lots of turnover and for me a little surprised that we are going so lean on the roster. 7 deep with 3 freshman in the mix is a risk. Maybe looking at a transfer at some point.

Roster has Hunt and Buchanan at the top which is a great anchor but we are looking at a 5th year out of Jerry and Vois taking a leap forward his sophmore year and one of the freshman to round it out. I have full trust in Small, but without NIco, Barger, Keating in the mix it feels thin to me. That being said players always improve under him and it will be fun to see how they come together.

Two grad transfers — kid from Loyola Chicago (10 top 10 finishes in his career) and one from Wright St (2-time golfer of the year in Horizon League).

we've bumped heads with Goecke before, outperformed all of our guys in the brutal conditions at the Dayton Invitational last year. Came in 2nd overall. Kid is a stick!

Good to hear. Was probably his home course or at least very familiar with it being Wright St is in Dayton. But finishing second in a tourney with the Illini in it is impressive.

I’m guessing unless the 2 transfers struggle they’ll be the 3/4 guys on the roster behind hunt and Buchanan and then voois vs Jerry vs the freshman for 5. Herendeen could be a stud on the level of adrien or Hardy but as a freshman idk if he’ll be ready

great showing by these two, match play grind to get this championship. One of the hardest to win in all of golf.

As of right now illinois might not be the best team in the big ten but who knows what happens this tournament and going on. Lot of time till spring season. Illini is taking max piercen jackson ryan and the 2 transfers from Loyola and Wright state to the Seattle area tournament this weekend. Starts later today. Max is returning home for his first college tournament im not sure who the individual will be. Btw not all college tournaments are on golfstat now individual tournaments have to pay them and not all will. Illini scores are here,

What a stacked tournament to start for illinois. Looks like Timmy Crawford is playing as an individual with Goecke, Voois, Herendeen, Hunt, and Buchannan counting

If I'm interpreting the board correctly, they played 2 rounds yesterday. And Coach Small had two golfers play once as an individual and once for the team.

That's some pretty incredible timing by the coach. Maybe these guys are future Ryder Cuppers. They certainly come together for team!
