IDPH says all high school sports will be allowed to play in Phase 4, including basketball and football

Illinois Department of Public Health director Dr. Ngozi Ezike said on Friday that all regions in Illinois that reach Phase 4 of COVID-19 mitigations can play high school basketball.

“In a stunning announcement with no advance warning, Illinois Department of Public Health director Dr. Ngozi Ezike said on Friday that regions in Illinois that reach Phase 4 of COVID-19 mitigations can play all sports. That includes higher-risk sports like basketball, football and wrestling.

Many were expecting Gov J.B. Pritzker and the IDPH to cancel higher-risk sports seasons entirely. Pritzker had originally said that higher-risk sports wouldn’t be allowed to compete until spring.”

I have no words to express the utter disgust I feel for our elected officials in Illinois.

Clearly this was well thought out and carefully planned. Just like moving from Tier 3 to Tier 1 in less than 48 hours. Super helpful for those trying to give the kids a chance to actually play.
