I don't know if any of this is unique to our fanbase. But I do agree with some of what you are saying. Tejon Lucas had a pretty damn impressive freshman season in my opinion and yet a lot of folks think INSERT HS PG HERE will come in and immediately supplant him in the lineup. The adjustment to the speed of the game in college is hard and some get it faster than others. Generally I think expectations are always too high on freshmen and then when they fail to set the world on fire, they seem to be somewhat forgotten. Still I don't think this is unique to Illini fans. It's just human nature. The grass is always greener. Mystery contains hope. Whatever.

There is not a post on this board calling Leron Black a future all-Big Ten player, and he was better than any of those guys last year, playing garbageball in a system that didn't suit him.

Our fanbase's contours of smart to dumb, optimistic to pessimistic, nice to mean, it's all the same as you'll find anywhere else. But our subject matter is just different. It just is.

That's an interesting sentiment from a guy whose sole purpose on these boards seems to be to throw a wet blanket on everything.

Don't look now, but it appears that young Mr. Tilmon has re-posted many scenes of him on campus in the orange and blue that were previously taken down on his twitter page . . .

Yep. Pretty sure that the lifeboat is new, too. Tigerboard says that he is a lock at Mizzou, but his twitter revisions seem to suggest otherwise. Might be wishful thinking, but could this be due to the good influence of Mr.Smith and is it possible that this is why we have not been hearing anything from the staff on recruiting any other bigs for 2017?

if he was a lock at Mizzu they would have him signed and wouldn't be pushing the younger porter to reclassify.

I have something to say. If Smith chooses another school besides Illinois, I don’t want to see any parent, fan, family member, friend, etc., go into a temper tantrum and blame him for his decision. I don’t care if it’s on this board, Twitter, Facebook, elsewhere on the Internet, or even in person...I believe it is ridiculous and downright stupid to do that.

Remember, this is his decision. It’s not yours. We all remember what happened when Tilmon and Pickett de-committed recently. While some understood, some did not and went into an angry rage. I do not want to see that. As an Illini fan base, we must respect Smith’s decision tomorrow. I have never met him personally, nor have I talked to him, yet I believe he is a great student-athlete.

Like the majority of you, I hope he comes to Illinois. I believe Coach Underwood and his staff are doing great things. Just takes time, yet Underwood and his staff need more players. Depth has to increase. Here’s hoping Smith commits to :illinois:

Sounds like JT needs​ summer school wherever he's going and weight room. JCL,MS, Kipper, Frazier,Finke, sound like a good bunch to start season on floor?

What are you talking about? There haven't been any changes on his twitter or IG accounts. Dude hasn't even tweeted in a couple of weeks.

Can we qualify young Mr. Smith re-tweeting on his own twitter account today the cartoon gif of himself dunking at Illinois as a leak, albeit by himself? Or perhaps at least a foreshadowing/clue/not too subtle hint of what his plans are for his announcement tomorrow?

Summer school or even a year or semester of juco is the rumor I have heard. I have zero inside information ..So that could be a bogus rumor, in fact I imagine false is more likely than true.

Dunno if you can believe anything thats on twitter. Somebody had said he tweeted some sparty stuff too but when I look I can't see it. Maybe I just don't know how to twitter. I do see that following Mark's announcement they will have free cake for everyone... hope its orange!

Yes, but it was Mark who retweeted that one yesterday or the day before on his own twitter, so it appears that there is a discernible pattern here the last couple of days of his making favorable orange and blue references in advance of tomorrow. Unless it's the Russian hackers doing it to mess with us.
