In a lot of ways it feels like this was the perfect storm to get this guy. But what we're we saying during football season? A storm is brewing? I'll take it. Congrats to.Mark and the staff.

Ready for some S&C positivity gang?

So, I stand by what I said about Smith earlier. He's obviously a terrific player, but expecting him to be much better than where he's rated is bad and unfair to him. It's a low-percentage proposition.

HOWEVER, we don't just have Smith, we also have Frazier and Da'Monte, two other guys with similar attributes, all of whom with a lot of athleticism and upside, who are good fits for a system that will hopefully be very well coached.

Each is below 50/50 odds of blowing up over way their rankings, because that's how it works. But those odds compound when you stack recruits of that quality. So the chances that ONE of them is a four-year all-conference type stud is probably well better than a coin-flip.

Honestly, I feel like we're getting a second chance at that DJ, BP3 and JoeBert class. Those kids were great players and didn't get the help or the coaching they deserved. That should have been a memorable era of Illini Basketball.

We've got the right people in place now. Let's go get 'em! :hailtotheorange:

I generally agree with you on this, but there is reason to believe that Smith has a much higher ceiling than his rating. He's got size, athleticism, and skill -- and he's only been focused 100% on basketball for less than a year now. That's why people see the upside.

well you could say most of the same about DaWill He's got size, athleticism, and skill

Does anyone find it ironic that we didn't have a real PG for years and now we will have four? And they look forward to playing together. Let the chemistry develop.

A little bit, but the best illustration of how I feel about that fact is as follows:

Two true, true PGs (Lucas and Frazier). But our cup runneth over with quality ballhandlers who can create their own offense.

Just got back from the ceremony at Edwardsville. So excited that Mark Smith is officially apart of the Illini Men's Basketball Program. I can't wait to watch him dominate in the Orange and Blue. #WeWillWin

Funny enough, gun to my head, which of the three has the best Illini career? I'd say Frazier.

I think they'll all be contributors, and quickly. It's a heck of a start for Underwood.

That's a tough question, I will take DaWill if he gets back to 100%, but they all are going to be a lot of fun to watch that's for sure.

only 1 true pg Lucas even Frasier himself says he is a combo , But I agree we wont see one guy standing waiting for another to go take it out so he can walk up the court. Who ever is closest will throw it in to who ever is closest and off we go

I'm surprised the Scholarship Grid Board is still not updated. Guess everyone is to busing enjoying the moment. Well done Coach Underwood and staff!

Any projections on JCL's 3 pt avg next year? PG's will mean a lot more open shots.

And I believe we are capable of defense with quickness and attitude. Would like the big with bounce to complete the roster.

So we now have 4 guys who could roll the ball to half court before they pick it up!:D

I hope I never, ever see that again as long as I live.

I think if we see that you will see BU rip off someone head if not 2 or 3 guys

I understand that they may not be the next Dee and Deron but IMO I think they will
Be better than Brandon and DJ. So I think somewhere in between is the safe bet with hopefully a Dee and Deron like rise.
