Yep, not coming. We ideally want to find something very specific: a big that fits the spread offense, can protect the rim on defense, can contribute immediately, and is either 1) good enough to start over Finke/Black right away or 2) comfortable coming off the bench for 15-20 minutes per game (preferably the former). There are very few players like that available at this stage. Kiir might have been one, but he's going to LSU. Tilmon fit the bill, obviously. Among transfers Sean Obi could be a fit, but I'm guessing he wants a starting role at a winning program (neither is guaranteed at Illinois). I predict we'll grab an underrated project HS big (coaching change decommit or whatever) and/or a small school 5th year (McLauren type). Hopefully whoever we get is serviceable.

All this J.Walker bashing must stop.
1. Underwood has known and had relationship with him for a while.
2. He has close relationships with current players(huge) and current recruits.
3. He is a good Coach and mentor.
4. He has recruiting connections in key areas.

If you think he was hired solely for Tilmon and Smith you're wrong!!

Amen, +1,000,000, and :thumb:

My scorecard reads:

One decommit, who always seemed iffy at best.
One very significant upgrade in coaching.

Smith is a wish list item, possibly still in play.

So, two kids who may have an impact for a couple of years vs. one adult who may have an impact for many.

Things seem okay to me.

In Underwood we trust.

you should add 3 young men who depending on if any RS or not could also have big impacts for 4 to 5 years.

Feel like whenever there was extremely low expectations we'd get someone, they end up randomly signing with IL. And whenever I'm told it's in the bag (Cliff, DJax), they end up going somewhere else.

So I feel pretty good about Smith atm.

JCL signed before I followed recruiting. What did his signing look like and was there much chatter?

I dont think anyone was really saying us at the time. His kinda quiet if I remember correctly. I think everyone was saying he was going to UM or maybe it was ND. Wasnt us though.

Very quiet. Widely believed he was going elsewhere so discussion of him wasn't at all heavy. Then he verballed and it was a "Say What?" reaction.

A lesser version of the Underwood hiring. It was assumed Underwood wouldn't leave Ok St after just one year so he didn't receive the board's focus.

Speaking for myself, I know I said I would be fine losing the entire class in exchange for a coaching upgrade.

You are not alone.

I have no problem with retaining Walker but if anyone thinks the only reason to do so was to keep Timon and have a shot at Smith they are extremely shortsighted.

We will be a better team with Underwood as coach and that is all that matters to me. I'm disappointed that Tilmon de-committed, but the overreaction is kind of silly. Move on and never look back.

Be grateful you haven't seen the carnage of previous recruiting battles.

I do remember one poster kept mentioning how JCL was absolutely a stone cold lock to ND. Mentioned it as an absolute the way we all love to hear it around here. Never heard from him again once he quietly committed to U of I. But man was he convinced.

One of the more painful posters in recent memory.

So with the end of the Dead period our entire staff flies down to Florida. I'm sure they will pop in on Frazier but there has to be more. They are throwing a full court press on someone. Here are a few top remaining unsigned Florida kids:

5 Trevon Duval IMG Academy (Bradenton, FL)PG 6-3 190

8 Kevin Knox Tampa Catholic (Tampa, FL) SF 6-8 205

93 Sandro Mamukelashvili Montverde Academy (Montverde, FL) PF 6-11 230

153 Mayan Kiir Victory Rock Prep (Bradenton, FL) PF 6-9 220

204 D.J. Russell The Potter's House Christian Academy (Jacksonville, FL) PF 6-7 210

Wasn't there a coach we liked at FSU? I mean, while we're down there recruiting kids why not put on the full court press?
