Actually, he's probably going to be pretty good. Mark's sister, who was at the table, is only a freshman but she played on the varsity at least part of the year. She was the only freshman on the varsity this year when the Edwardsville girl's team made it to the finals at ISU. Didn't play but still pretty good for a frosh. She also starts for the varsity softball team. So sports might be a gene thing for the family. He'd have to go some to be as good as Mark but who knows?

Got any idea how big Smith's Dad is? All I've seen is them sitting at the table today, but he looked pretty large. Maybe Mark's growth plates are still open and we'll have the second coming of Magic. :) That'd probably really tick off Spartyland.

Yeah, but if I am Jeremiah I look at the Porter brothers, with their Dad on the sidelines and realize I am 3rd on Front Line to eat. Not only that, but who gets me the ball? At Illinois I am the lone post with 3 PG to distribute.

Totally agree. The situation at Mizzou for Tilmon is less than ideal.

If that happened they'd probably run Hondo out of town on a rail.

Frazier, Williams, Smith, Badocchi, Tilmon, Pickett?

# 5 Class if not higher...Smith is talking to BOTH players...not just Tilmon?

Adding just Tilmon would put as at #6 according to 247. Thats with Da'Monte dropping 100 spots in their composite from the time he committed and since his injury.

Adding both wouldn't change much but Pickett would push us to #5 over Duke.

Adding Badocchi doesn't change our score at all.

BOOM! Feed my ego.
Is Badocchi unranked, or rather altogether unscouted? Very little info out there. Seems strange for a guy Virginia and Illinois both want.

Both probably. He lived in Italy until this year I think.

Very excited to see how we round out this class now. Was thinking about who we have now, specifically Damonte and it got me pulling up old highlights of his dad, HRF. Man, the game came so easy to him.

Highlights of Frank vs Iowa. Dookie V enjoying it.

Do you know the story behind that little outburst. I could be wrong on this, but I believe Pierre Pierce was running his mouth, and then Frank just put it in another gear.

I think Pickett is out even if he wants back in at this point. If we get Tilmon and Badocchi, I just don't see us even talking to Pickett again. I could be wrong, but I honestly think he is out of the picture for good.

If you watch only one of these highlight videos watch the last one Jack Whitman from william and Mary as a grad year transfer. UNC was after him until they got Brooks. Had many UNC salivating over him. Watch the first highlight when he dunks on Duke: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=R_NFVE3I00Y

Is there actually anything credible out there to suggest that Mark Smith committing will have any effect on Tilmon? Or is that just complete speculation by this board?

There was a quote from Mark after his signing ceremony last night in which he mentioned talking to his friend Jeremiah and reselling him on UI. It doesn't guarantee Tilmon has any interest but its pretty credible that its a possibility.

The kid himself said he was working on bringing Tilmon back.

If he succeeds I'm thinking next year got a helluva lot more interesting.

Well, Mark did say last night in a couple of interviews that he is talking regularly with his good friend Jeremiah and I doubt it is about the mizzou baseball team. Mark's decision certainly might help explain why it has been so quiet on the Tilmon front. Who knows what Coach Walker has been doing behind the scenes given the ILLINI's great new ability under Whitman's stealth leadership to not let information get out until the deal is sealed?

The elbow injury would not heal according to this article. The surgeon told him he was fine to play hoops as long as he didn't throw a basketball 90 mph.

And further I can't imagine Josh Whitman allowing our new prized hoops recruit and Illinois Mr. basketball to throw baseballs and risk reinjury.

Yeah, that was last summer though. I wouldn't be surprised if they looked at it now if it was in better shape.

I wouldn't rule out Smith getting drafted either. MLB teams love taking chances on elite athletes, even guys that haven't played baseball in years.
