Improve eventually? At Purdue?

While at Purdue Swanigan’s 3P% went from 29% in year 1 to 45% in year 2. By definition, that is improving your outside shot.

But as was said earlier when discussing Damonte, you can't increase your three-point percentage that much! Right?

It seems Feliz was brought in as much for culture and leadership as anything. He might be a new guy, but he's older and experienced. And anyone who calls themselves El General won't be afraid to get in faces, which was sorely lacking with last year's team. Jumpshot aside, that has to be the biggest difference between he and TJL.
Plus there's no lofty expectations to be managed with this player, or his dad. He's plug and play.

Agreed. I think his services will help improve the culture and competitiveness. Ayo and Trent would've been guaranteed starting spots. Now, there is at least competition for the starting point guard spot and don't think that Feliz cares how many stars are next to the other two's names.

I'll take that bet. Someone has to be out there for starter's minutes.

Four guards/wings and Kipper at the five. I realize defensively not good at all, but think of the nightmare other teams would endure trying to guard us! I wouldn't be surprised depending on matchups to see this look some next year. It would be our best bet from an offensive standpoint.

I think we actually already have a sampling of BU's talent assessment abilities -- based upon his first four recruits:

Mark Smith
Mark Alstork
Greg E.
M. Vesel

I'm not a huge fan of any of the four. The sample size now grows, and we'll be in a better position to judge a year from now.

I'm still a proponent of the Lou Henson approach --- lock down the best in-state talent year-after-year.

I do believe we're missing the NCAA Tourney again next year.

This is the year we can start judging IMO. It would have been foolish to not go after Smith even with hindsight. Alstork was one of the best transfers available and didnt cost us anything since he was a 5th year. The other two were gambles that he could afford to take since he didn't really have many other options.

This, but what's the over/under on how many more posts mention getting 2 more recruits? .........void if any more transfers happen......

You have to take into account Luther Head paying for someone to be a walk-on.

Smith was Mr. Basketball and he would have been crucified had he not recruited Smith. Alstork was a grad transfer and I don’t feel belongs in the same category. I actually love Ebo and also think Vesel will surprise us down the road. The landscape has changed dramatically since Lou’s era and you have to change with it. I like the direction we are heading but maybe my glass if half full.

So happy to have Feliz!
Just one more piece to this puzzle this year and we should know who that is soon.
I see this team by the time the B1G season starts as being very competitive.

Let go of the past. Things evolve over time. Including recruiting. Lou didn't deal with AAU scene. Kids now have exposure damn near yr rnd from coaches all over the country, coast to coast, border to border. Not to mention agents, etc. it's a different game now. They're simply not gonna lock up Illinois for a multitude of reasons. They focused on the #1 senior this yr in the state and they closed it

Waiting on Ramey to decide would have been risky. I mean really?! He has a list of 10 schools and doesn't realize that usually by now a recruit has already committed if not signed an LOI. I think Underwood did the right thing. How many times did Weber or Groce get burned waiting too long for a recruit to make a decision possibly passing up good recruits/players? Too many times. We don't need another Cliff Alexander hat fake situation again. Not saying Ramey would do that but come on it's April and you're a 2018 recruit. You can't wait on them forever.

Man if only our coaches had thought of this. Quick, someone tell Underwood he should be going after the top players in the state!

Oh wait, he already got the #1 player in the state to commit.

Having Illinois products as most of our players was very cool, but it's a vestige of a bygone era. This staff doesn't care where the players are from, it's all about getting the best possible players and winning. And I think our chances of that are much better with a bigger net.

I like this guy. He looks like the kind of long quick player that gives you fits. Plays like one of the Baylor players from recent years.

It does not look like Malik Martin is going to happen.

Interesting athleticism, but makes you wonder why he could not start at a last place South Florida team as well.

This staff is filling holes in March and April, the latest part of the recruiting year. I really hate the thought process that these are handpicked Underwood guys when it seeks closer to the fact we are even offering these players to begin with come from our failures as a program elsewhere (and those failures not all Underwood's fault to be fair).
I dont understand the line....."it seeks closer to the fact that we are even offering" .

I get that its late in the process, but I really like the class, given the late season transfer notices in March. Im glad we arent waiting until the summer to fill slots.

If you told me 45 days ago we would pick up Jones, Griffin, Kane and Ben as newcomers I would be very satisfied...Feliz is great pickup also.

BL, I believe we are in a stronger position than same time last year. Now the player development begins...

Not sure what his back story is, but since he announced his intent to transfer a couple of days ago, coaches on the following teams have followed him on Twitter:

Vanderbilt
Northern Colorado
Tennessee Tech
Rutgers
Arkansas
USC
Canisius

Probably doesn't mean anything, but interesting. Obviously Antigua has followed him for a long time.

Just want to add my perspective on Matic V. How many thought we would want to keep Mav Morgan around for a fifth year after seeing him perform as a frosh? Matic has more skill, but not strength. If he develops his strength to the point of being able to pound back at B1G bigs and becomes aggressive at using his shooting skills, he will be a very important contributor in a couple of years. Guys like that are not a dime a dozen. So much depends on his persistence and determination to give back as good as he takes his first two years. I could be wrong as who knows what these kids are thinking, but he just might become an Illini favorite. Meanwhile, lets see how Georgi develops as well as Calloo/Hinson if one decides to join. We now at least have bigs on the roster.
