Blackshear from Va Tech entering the transfer portal. Any chance we go after him? Him and Giorgi at the 4 next year, along with Cockburn at the 5, would be the best frontcourt we’d probably ever had. Would move Jones/Nichols to their natural positions at the 3, and would allow Ayo/Trent/Feliz/Williams/Griffin to compete for minutes at the other guard spots. That roster is top 4 Big Ten IMO...however; doubt we go after him hard, but isn’t he the perfect fit at the 4?
Blackshear would be a huge get - Tech ran a similar-ish offense with him at the pinch post and alot of cutting to the rim. He's basically what I would hope Giorgi will be in another couple of years.

If we have two open scholarships (Higgs and January) I would be very happy with Holyfield and a good shooter. Any news on Holyfield?
Just curious how this seems to still be the assumption given that BU just said everyone is still on board.

Still makes me think of Wayne Blackshear. Every. Time.

When Underwood said that the question from JW was implying those already on the current roster, not commits. Higgs has been the worst kept secret since the season started.

Haven't heard Kofi involved with other programs lately. Feel ok knowing OA has a longterm relationship with him and family. But blue bloods are always a concern.

Don't understand the concern. It's the biggest moment in the kids athletic/educational/social life(to date) and he wants/needs his mother there. I'm not quite seeing the concern.
The concern is that he's not signing tomorrow. Good reason or not, he's not signing tomorrow and nothing really matters till he signs.

Haven't been an Illini fan long?
Oh, I have. I was as PO'd as everyone else with the EG scenario, but again....there was some serious smoke there. Sampson is dirty, he was an Indiana kid, Sampson stayed on him and it came out he was going to their MM. That was trending towards the dark side for a month.

There's absolutely no smoke here....seems like his timing is completely understandable. Not so much during our other quagmires.

Just to add here, as I am sure the next retort will be about him, Quentin Snider was a Louisville kid who grew up dreaming of playing for Louisville. It's hard to blame him (IMO) because I'd have done the same thing in favor of Illinois if I were in him and the tables were reversed.

Cliff Alexander was never committed to UI, so while the hat trick was painful, it's not the same situation.

Bottom line, the situation right now obviously worries people because we've had a run of bad luck, but there is no credible reason to suggest that this is anything other than Kofi waiting for his mom to arrive in town.

One guy didn't want to play for Illinoiz and the other wanted to play right away in Spain. Kofi wants to be an Illini.

Exactly. Kofi saying he is just waiting for his mom, but still 100% committed to the Illini, then flipping would be an all time nut punch moment...Even for this program.

I can't see it being anythng other than what is being reported.

It's my understanding that his mom has to sign as well. Assuming that's correct, what good would him signing now do? I'm with other posters, there's no smoke here, so can't see there being any fire. Much ado about nothing...

I see more people saying to stop panicking than I do people actually worried. 🧐

This one has actually had very limited drama by Illini standards.
