Haha--not all offers are commitable.!!!

While I believe this is very true, Groce was asked this point blank by Tate in a recent interview on WDWS and said all his offers were commitable. Not sure he could say otherwise publicly though.

All offers are probably commitable. Final step though is for staff to accept that commitment. That may be where the difference lies. Brian Snow once tweeted: it's a fairly simple process.

1. Schools make an offer to athlete
2. Athlete accepts the offer
3. School accepts the athlete's acceptance/commitment.

Might not have it word for word, but it is the concept.

It's more complicated than that. If it was that simple, you'd have a lot of occurrences of athletes accepting offers (#2) without the school accepting the commitment (#3). Yet, that very rarely happens, extremely rare.

I know a lot of athletes who have had offers without them being able accept (i.e., commit). There are a lot of contingencies on offers and not all offers are the same.

I'm guessing our offers to Tilmon and Goodwin are commit-able, right?

I did not mean these specific cases, my post had to do with multiple athletes/offers I have personally known over the years.

But as far as guessing on those two (pretty much our top priorities with realistic chances), of course. If Pickett can commit, so can Goodwin and Tilmon. It is when schools move from their top targets and top recruits that things get more complicated.

I should of included an Emoticon in my post. I do know what you were getting at.

Lots of schools going after a limited amount of players. Every school would like to get Top 50 players, but there are only so many of them and most of those players don't sign early.

I swear I saw an article at least a couple months ago where one of our targets talked about his offer and what the coaching staff said he needed to do to make it at this level. I took that as an offer that wasn't committable on the spot but would be eventually as long as the student reached certain milestones.

Yeah, and it difficult to know the details and contingencies of specific offers, unless within the coaching staff or very close to the athlete (e.g., family, coaches, AAU program, etc.).

People ask "what good is an offer if it is not commitable on the spot?" Well, it does help both sides. Offers help recruits and HS/AAU programs, they boost their status, image, perception. They also help college programs show options, recruiting activity, even put some pressure on other recruits.

It is not that college coaches give offers (even with contingencies) to players they have no interest whatsoever. They don't, but there is the element of goodwill/marketing on many of them.

There can be many contingencies, priorities, timing, academics, milestones, etc. Sometimes the contingencies are such that an athlete, his family, or his coaches can easily see that "this is not going to happen." Yet, they are more than glad to get these offers. It does help them.

Xavier, Illinois, Louisville, Michigan State Indiana remain in the hunt for a top-50 guard http://buff.ly/28NpgH1

Scruggs said he’s being recruited by Xavier, Illinois, Louisville, Michigan State and Indiana. He’s been on the campus of Louisville and is trying to set up a visit Illinois. As we approach the final recruiting period to the summer, Scruggs said there isn’t a frontrunner right now.

First is education. Is their education top notch and if they have a business and management part in their school,” Scruggs said. Then basketball come into play. “(Do) they let their guards go?”

Not an official top 5, but good news nonetheless. I honestly can't imagine him going anywhere but IU or MSU, but if he somehow ended up here it could turn this ship around in a hurry. A backcourt rotation of Scruggs, JCL, either of Goodwin/Eastern, Lucas, Da'Monte, and Jordan would be absolutely vicious. Daydreaming

I remember Groce really charmed JCL with his focus on education in his pitch. If he and Dee bring their A-game on Scruggs visit, he might be within reach. Just maybe.

The Kitties are seriously recruiting Goodwin, but I'll believe they're at the top of his list when he commits to them. Not gonna happen.

If we do lose him, I sure hope it isn't to Northwestern. I think I'd just ignore this board for a month or so.
