Big surprise, his list is A-list.

Would not call his list a big surprise, pretty much the schools expected to make the short list, did make the short list.

Groce's recruiting class pretty much depends on two recruits, Tilmon and Goodwin. If he misses on those two, he will face more criticism.

Does anyone else think that Goodwin is exactly the type of player Shaka Smart wants? Like, if Smart could design a player it would be Goodwin.

I know you should always bet the field when it comes to recruits but I'm not sure how we stand a chance against THAT field. Lots of blue blood and near blue blood. The only one I don't feel threatened by is Texas. (watch him pick Texas haha)

It will be awesome if Groce's hard work pays off and we land him but I hope we have a serviceable backup ready to come visit and commit should we lose out on this one.

Pretty much agree entirely. The only way he could avoid hand wringing if he missed on those two would be pulling at least one of Derek Culver, Theo John, Victor Uyaelumno, and Mayan Kiir; one of Terrence Lewis, Jarrett Culver, and Justin Smith; one of Nojel Eastern and Paul Scruggs; and either Trent Frazier, a big time late riser, or a top-notch 5th year transfer. Suffice it to say, that would be a tall order.

And on second thought, I'm sure a class like Da'Monte, Pickett, Kiir, Frazier, J. Culver, and Eastern would still draw some scrutiny, even though it would be top-4 in the B1G and top-20 nationally.

I'm feeling good about Tilmon. Just visited us on the down-low and was confident enough to release his top five (or six) just after. We feed on hope here!

Tilmon was just waiting for that Kentucky offer to come to turn it down, now he can start the process to cut schools. Keeping the big boys around to keep his 5 * status. ;)

No. 29-ranked 2017 Jeremiah Tilmon tells ESPN he is down to five: Illinois, Michigan State, North Carolina, Texas, Kansas. @jeremiahtilmon_

Michigan State and North Carolina are the biggest threats IMO. Have a feeling it will come down to Illinois and those two.

Looking at his list, I have a feeling he won't end up at Kansas. Texas is intriguing, because of Shaka, and he's a good coach. You can't forget what he did at VCU.

If he commits to Illinois, you'll see a domino effect.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Tilmon and some of the other Illini targets begin announcing when and where they will take their official visits. We're getting closer and closer to the halfway point, since July starts this week.

I hope Tilmon likes to compete big time, because JHawks have 2016 Burger Boy Udoka Azubuike coming in this fall. Plus Nick Richards, Brandon McCoy, and Ikey Obiagu all 2017 recruits with offers. All 3 are rated higher than Tilmon. UI doesn't quite have that same level of competition.:)

It means you shouldn't try to decode social media messages sent out by our recruits. Until he commits, his comment means he is flirting.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if it turns out Tilmon does actually commit to the Illini and then explains that he always wanted to come to Illinois but that he knew it would bring more positive attention to the program if he let the process continue, and then had a big televised ceremony with all those "blue blood" hats on the table and then picked the Illini, and explained that while those other programs and coaches are great, he really sees Illinois as the sleeping giant waking up and expects Illinois to compete for titles (plural) in the very near future. Wouldn't that be a lovely scene?

I love the quiet announcements like JCL's, but some day it would be nice to have a big, loud, visible, "we got him and you didn't!" kind of announcement, too...

I know, beggars and choosers and all that...

Scruggs is at the Steph Curry SC30 camp for elite players. Camp runs from 6/28 to 7/1 in San Fran. Only about 25 elite's at the camp.

More like kids will be picking on each other like "You lost the bet. Now you gotta wear THESE." ::horrified faces::

Looking at that list I think Tilmon is more important because of position & the number of good wings we are recruiting. If you gave me 2 of Lewis, Smith, Eastern, and Scruggs I wouldn't complain if we didn't get Goodwin. Not sure any of the bigs could have the short term impact of Tilmon & we will need a big ready to make an impact in 2017

Every time we are recruiting kids that end up going to blue bloods people bring up the "playing time competition" angle. It never works out well for us. When will we stop bringing it up?

Never, it's a legitimate concern especially for a player like Tilmon
