Luke Goode heading down to Xavier for their game against Villanova Saturday. They're going to be in it until the very end with him.
Gentry headed in to see him tomorrow.
Having someone his size that can be a plus 3pt shooter and be able to drive/finish at the rim while having great passing skills to find shooters or cutters will let BU really be able to do some creative things.
I would almost bet $$$ major $$$ that Hawkins will be flashing in and out or the high post/free throw line area for 15 ft and 3 pointers on clear outs to sides.
Zone buster!I would almost bet $$$ major $$$ that Hawkins will be flashing in and out or the high post/free throw line area for 15 ft and 3 pointers on clear outs to sides.
I'm very giddy about recruiting news in the recruiting thread. Thanks!I’m very giddy about how this 2021 class is looking to shape up....big time stuff happening
Is there a super secret bar or someplace they hang out?I expect the other coaches to be out and about tonight as well. Will let you guys know when I hear for sure..
Yes. Basement of old Kams is still there. Is there a super secret bar or someplace they hang out?
I believe that is a "yes" and "yes".Random question... Were we in on Alonzo Verge a few years back? Were grades an issue?
Very very positive feedback coming to the staff from multiple top players in the class. Working on visits....I know they love where they are at with Kepnang. Also Duke is loaded with wings in ‘21
I read three times that the top players in this class loved our team's current KenPom before realizing yet again that I'm an idiot.
Hmm... in Action Heights? I’ll be there watching my son play in the opener.I expect the other coaches to be out and about tonight as well. Will let you guys know when I hear for sure..
The guy is a stud! Some real shot blocking with him and Hawkins.Very very positive feedback coming to the staff from multiple top players in the class. Working on visits....I know they love where they are at with Kepnang. Also Duke is loaded with wings in ‘21
Which schools will become 'farm teams' for the bluebloods? Will Calipari tell a kid, "We are out of scholarships this year, so go to SW Eastern State and hone your skills... Then, next year, after BillyBob goes pro... You transfer in and immediately take over the point... A year or two and you're in the NBA.
Replace Susan with illini040 and Glen with CalvinKU, Duke, Kentucky, all tend to grab elite h.s. talent. Part of the draw of having an older, more experienced player on the roster is that they know your system. So if you're pulling in a transfer with no sit out year, they're likely just as new to the coach's system as the h.s. kid. And if players are getting extra benefits, as we've seen with various scandals, then the program's boosters/mercenaries would need to put some pretty nice incentives on the table to poach a player who's interested in that sort of payout. Not saying it wouldn't happen, just that it would surprise me given how big a fight already exists for talent.
I expect P5 programs to do the poaching, just as they do now.
If Hawkins could do all that now, he would easily be a five star. Maybe, just maybe, he can develop into that player, but it likely will later than sooner. That said, it has been forever since the Illini have had a player of his size that could and it is nice to have the opportunity to try and mold him to that level. It all depends on his desire and willingness to outwork the myriad of others who have the same dream. We don't know if he does, but time will tell. I am certain that the staff has that in mind but likely Hawkins has no idea what he will be asked to do. The question is will he welcome the challenge with the right attitude and determination. My daughter was an elite high school swimmer who like all others had a dream to be an Olympian. I told her to ask her coach what she needed to do to reach that level and that she likely would not want to make the sacrifices and endure the pain of the process. She had a wonderful career and worked hard, but the level of sacrifice to become and Olympian was not in her plans...most likely because in that sport, as he explained, it takes almost a freakish God given talent that others do not possess to gain the extra. That is also the case in most sports. Elite talent and elite determination = elite results. Few have both. Many have one or the other.Having someone his size that can be a plus 3pt shooter and be able to drive/finish at the rim while having great passing skills to find shooters or cutters will let BU really be able to do some creative things.
Giorgi last year, this year, he has played to his ranking, unfortunately. So far BU has been pretty good about identifying underrated talent in Giorgi and Alan. Maybe one more in Hawkins?
Thanks 0440!I expect the other coaches to be out and about tonight as well. Will let you guys know when I hear for sure..
