He can say it, but the Big Ten schools are all committed to giving 4-year scholarships to student-athletes. Unless Izzo is single-handledly changing league policy, it's not happening.

Big Ten guarantees four-year scholarships to student athletes
it’s still pretty common & standard practice to run off or Crean players you don’t want anymore

you may not be able to yank a schollie , but you can make things so difficult that they will be actively seeking a transfer out .

We played that pressure D because we had nobody that could protect the rim.
I have to disagree here. We played that pressure D because it was what Underwood played at SFA and OSU. He brought it here, but it did not work. Not even close to dependent upon players.

He changed at Ok State because it wasn't working, and then the team went on a run.

Burnett or Brunette?
Burnett, sorry I was using voice to text when driving obviously could not proofread.
Anyways, Burnett has told me that he is looking very strongly at Illinois as he is from here and would love to play in front of his family.
He said Illinois is very much in the running for his commitment, he also stressed he is looking very hard at alabama as well.
I asked him how many schools have been in contact with him and he said well over 25 schools have called, including depaul, northwestern, Michigan, Minnesota, Illinois, 75 percent or more of the big ten conference are vying for his comittment..
He did say he wont be making a decision until as early as the first week of April but could be later.
" Being able to come into an established program and being able to play from day one is very very important to me, culture and staff are very important to me as well as who I would be playing with, i want to come somewhere I am wanted and needed and be able to make a difference day one.
I want to be somewhere I can be coached and somewhere that will give me the best preparation and chance to move on in a year or two and persue my dreams of playing in the NBA" -Burnett
Now I can confirm that admissions at illinois have reviewed his transcripts and deemed him eligible for scholarship admission. By no means does it mean he is coming but it does mean he is very interested which is a good sign. But keep in mind he is just as onterested in alabama as well... Cross our fingers and watt until april!
As I believe he is waiting to see who declares and go to the NBA "ayo" in my non relevant humble opinion!

The blue bloods are going through a phase where the one and dones aren't good enough to propel them to top 25 status. Do these top players consider the Illinois' of the world that has talented playeers returning?

Don't think that's the issue. Those absolute game changers are starting to go the pro route.

Also this year the top guys didn't go to blue bloods. The top 20 saw guys going to USC, Ok State, Stanford, Florida State, Texas, Memphis, Gonzaga, Arizona State, Tennessee, and Howard.

In fact Duke only got 1 guy in the top 20, Kentucky and UNC 2 and Kansas 0. Without that absolute superstar, the #18 guy isn't significantly better than the #50, certainly not enough to win just with pure physical talent alone. Add in no experience and less time to get ready and the blue bloods have struggled.

This year is a little different in that there was less prep time and 3 of the top 20 had family connections to non blue blood schools. But the top guys going to get paid won't change and that's going to really hurt the teams that rely on top rated players and experienced high turnover. Without that superstar, the #14 recruit isn't going to just beat the #64 guy that's not a Sr.

IMO he's worse than Fran and at least Fran isn't passive aggressive about it. I've seen too many postgame Izzo meltdowns where his team shots 20 more free throws where he gripes about officiating to have any respect for the guy.

I don't think you've watched many Fran post-game interviews after losses. he's entirely passive aggressive

Believe Alabama is a leading contender to land Cardett as well. If Alabama lands one, does that help us with the other?

Man I’d really love us to land Cardet and Burnett. Guard and wing length would be a huge step up when you hit the group after Curbelo and Ace.

Burnett 6’4
Cardet 6’5
Grandison 6’6
Melendez 6’7
Goode 6’7
Hutch 🙏🏼 6’6

That’s the type of team that switches a bunch of screens, shuts down gaps with their length, and recovers to shooters to contest. That is a modern day basketball defensive perimeter.

That's a Flyin' Illini sized lineup.

Me too, but I think it's one or the other (Burnett, most likely). I just hope we get one.

I hate saying this because these are kids in college getting a degree, but this offseason would be the perfect time to get some kids to transfer out, dont want to say "Crean" them. This year you have a great selling point of them not having to sit out a year and they could go to another school and play immediately. The staff has had enough time to tell if Hamlin or Lieb can be contributors down the road in the B1G or not.

I'm not sure why we would want Hamlin or Lieb to transfer out. They are not taking playing time away from anyone and are good culture guys + scout team players. Of course, they may want to leave but I don't think the staff would be pushing for that.

A recent article regarding Burnett's recruitment:

Burnett broke down the schools he's in constant contact with, with 247Sports.

Illinois: “I have a very good relationship with Chin Coleman and the head coach. We definitely talk a lot through facetimes and zooms. I really like what they have going on over there. Ayo Dosunmu might be leaving so I might be able to go in there and keep it going and keep the good things coming. They're Top 5 right now and they believe I can come in there and keep that high ranking, winning, and style of play up.”

I agree on both Izzo and Fran. I will say I watched about 5 minutes of Iowa/PSU yesterday to see if there was any chance for an upset. At one point early in second half, PSU had 6 fouls and Iowa had none. He went crazy once a foul was called on Iowa on a fast break. It melted my heart. Semi separate note, but if IL finishes strong and ahead of Iowa, Ayo should be POY and not Garza. Garza has had a dominate year, but Ayo is playing better in Big 10 play and is a better defender. Just saying.

How good is Burnett? Is he the McDonald's All American or the guy that shot 28% from the field, 17% from 3, and had 17 turnovers to 11 assists against the weaker part of the schedule?

Some guys take some time to get up to speed, but that was a rough start.

If I had to choose between Izzo or Fran as being the biggest whiner....I'd pick Fran, but barely......If I had to choose between Izzo or Fran as being the biggest prick......Fran....and its not even close
