Smith may have ended up with a lot of points but he did not have a great game. I was hoping for a good game between the two teams but it just wasn't the case tonight. Tilmon never had a chance to do anything, got 2 fouls in the first. Benched most of the second. And then had 2 fouls plus a technical to get ejected in the 3rd quarter. On a positive note I got to meet Coach Walker at halftime, very nice guy!

I agree with this. Lot of points not a great showing.

I like the sound of 26 points on an off night:) Can't be at your best every night.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw he had 20. In high school if I scored 20 I was having a real good game

Edwardsville was without their center, Epenesa tonight. That put a lot more of the offensive load on Smith tonight. Early on in the game he was forcing a lot of shots that he would normally not take. Once Edwardsville got Tilmon out of the game they ran the four corners primarily. Boring stuff but it is hard to guard Smith in that offense. He kept getting fouled and then hitting free throws. I left before the monster dunk. Smith did throw the ball at the ref at one point in the third quarter, ref looked like he was going to "T" him up but didn't. Refs were bad tonight.

Have to say it's disappointing that in a gym 2 hours away, our head coach isn't there to watch our new top recruit go up against our prized signee while all of Northwestern is there.

^^^^^^^^
Defense with a capital DDDD is his game. Rebounds extremely well.

If you were at the game and are watching the game from a sports eyes...Smith gets hammered every trip....but so did Tilmon.....

In some opinions they could say Smith didn't play well...26pts, 15 rbs, 10asst. (right those stats are padded also) so 3rbs and 2 assts) and no Epenesa to help.....He earned every point with 5-6 different defenders going at him....but hey everyone is entitled to their opinion...

I saw on twitter that Northwestern offered him tonight so he played well enough to get another high major offer with 26pts., 3rbs, & 2assts....

Can't find much on him, but the article I read says Shakur is only 6'7. Not much size but if he has a motor and toughness like Leron then we can make it work.

Chicago's '19 SG Perry Cowan DePaul Prep, IL: It would be cool to play @ Ill.
Representing your home state would be legit #illini offered.

LOL 6'7 is plenty tall enough if the kid can jump some, and wants to get the ball. ask the flying Illini to a man about it and they will all tell you they were happy that Big Jens didn't stay for a 5th year, so the tallest guy on that team in 89 was Liberty and he was as much a PG as he was a center and they did just fine. I would take a line up of a Ed Marrow type Black DJW as my front 3 any day twice on sunday Give me guys who can run jump and have a nose for the ball over guys who are talk cant move there feet and don't even try to jump to get a rebound. Anyone who watched the game sunday should have noticed we had some of our best mins with Finke Black and DJW on the court at the same time.

"Final: Edwardsville 66, ESL 55. #Illini priority target Mark Smith posts 26 pts, double-digit boards & 5 dimes. Another good showing."

That's from Piper, but lol keep inflating those numbers.

Edwardsville is known for padding their stats for top players. They usually come out with more assists than field goals made.

On Stl. Today they have him with 10 assists. That is the site I was referencing when I said they inflated his assists totals.

I know sure where they get those, but I think it comes directly from the school.

They also have Smith at 0-3 on threes but i think he missed that many in the first quarter.

I'd be surprised if Mark Smith doesn't commit to Illinois. He's gone to at least two Illini games recently, including Braggin' Rights.

Didn't see you were quoting the poster above there

Comparison

Was curious so did some research-

Name 3 pt %. 2 pt %. Ft %

Pickett. 33.8. 56.5. 63.5
Smith. 40.4. 61.9. 84.6
Tilmon. 62.4. 51.9
Goodwin. 35.4. 61.9. 54.6

FT shooting needs to be improved except Smith. Would like to have some sort of defensive stats other than blocks. Still believe that is where championships are won.
