i thought the game being in chicago might help JT chances. first illini MCDAA in awhile would have sold some tickets

First time since the start of the McDonald's game (1977) that Illinois has not had at least 1 participant in back to back years. No 2016's and now no 2017's.

That could be. While it would have been nice to have a player in the game, it does not change the quality of the player we are getting. Regardless of whether the rankings say 5 star or high 4 star, the Illini are getting a big with tons of potential.

How in the world does Charles O'Bannon Jr make it? Ranked #81 on Scout. Are there no better wings out there?

And geez, look at all that high end big man talent? No wonder JT didn't make it.

Yep, pretty low B1G and midwest presence in general as well. I thought it would have helped Timon and Illinois. I thought it was even more surprising that Frazier did not even get nominated, it does not take much to be on the nomination list.

but his (Charles O'Bannon Jr.) ESPN 2017 rankings .... He's #34 & Tillmon is #36

O'Bannon's Dad and Uncle were both McD's AA and he is #41 on 247 composite. Legacy helped a lot in that one.

Be interesting to see if much changes with the new arena. Was looking at 247sports, and by their rankings, they haven't seen a good recruiting class in a looong time. Not really a time to throw stones as an Illinois fan, but if they remain irrelevant, that's fine by me.

Yes, I did post a link to the entire list a few days back as I was surprised his name was not there. His name was not on the list, but it now appears. So I assume it was typo/omission kind of mistake.

Smith has very good handle (body control, grounded, smart decisions) of the PG position. When I say he is grounded I mean that he moves with purpose and doesn't get caught in the air or reckless drives to the basket. He obvioiusly is athletic, nice finishes at the rim.

I've seen several highly rated players today, just attack the rim with wild shots.

Regarding Tilmon, MCAA has become borderline unwatchable. Great honor, but it may motivate him more than anything. Meyers Leonard not an MCAA, but was selected for USA vs World and NBA lottery pick after two years.

Epperson, does a lot of small things on loaded team and has a good motor. Smart player, will put on weight. Good shot, soft touch, and once again does the things that make a team win. Looking good today.
