Where is Groce.

Dunno. Might have gone back to the adidas event to watch Scruggs. That's why he was late to the Eagles game last night. But I don't know about today for sure.

Eagles lose third game in a row 66-60. Goodwin a dog as usual, but without Tilmon they just can't stack up against elite centers.
Or should say, their perimeter game, good as it is sometimes, isn't enough to make up for the lack of an inside game.

Another tough loss for the Eagles. I agree with Bomb Squad that with Tilmon they'd be winning most/all of these close games. They just don't have anyone on the active roster able to neutralize opposing shot blockers. It makes them overly dependent on outside shooting, and besides Garland and Finke, they're an average shooting team.

Goodwin played great in this one, apart from missing a few key free throws and getting stripped on a drive to the basket in the final minute. He hit some outside shots, got to the rack at will, and made some great passes and defensive plays. Final stats not posted yet. Edit: Goodwin with 21 pts, 12 reb, 6 ast

Darius Garland also had a great game. He changes speeds really well and has a very tight handle. Slippery in traffic and finishes well despite his size. Tim Finke, on the other hand, didn't fare too well: had some ugly turnovers and wasn't hitting his shots. Still gave a good effort and looked like one of the more talented players on the court - just wasn't his day. Eagles now a surprising 1-3.

Watching Meanstreets now. Nojel Eastern switched numbers from 21 to 33. He's having an excellent game so far - looks aggressive. Brian Bowen dominating as usual. Tied up at 27 with 1:01 to go in the first half.

4 for 4 for Izzo and Bowen. He's not taking any chances on that kid.
Bad news: Sounds like Travis Trice's mother has adopted MS. Noticed her last night and again this morning.

Jeff Borzello ‏@jeffborzello 1m1 minute ago Tom Izzo watching five-star scorer Brian Bowen, while Jim Boeheim and Duke's Nate James among those for five-star PG Quade Green. #nikeeyb

Not Bowen's best game for sure.

Jeff Borzello ‏@jeffborzello 52s52 seconds ago Mohamed Bamba is such an impact player on D. Shot-changer at the rim & he's been chasing Brian Bowen around screens all game too. #nikeeyb

Bowen started strong, but the wheels came off for MS in the second half. Bamba is incredibly long and disruptive underneath. Watching DeAndre Ayton, Marvin Bagley III, and Mohamed Bamba back-to-back-to-back really brings home what it means to have a dominant big man. Those guys can all change the game at will. Hopefully Tilmon commits and brings that element to the beloved.

Yes, his stats were better than I would have guessed. But his and Gilyard's 1 for 6 from 3 (and Gilyard's 1 for 10 overall from the floor) really harmed them. I didn't think they had much chance against PSA so when they went ahead by 8 early in the 2nd half I was really hoping for the upset.

Bamba and Green are both heavy Duke leans according to the Crystal Ball and Randolph is 100% for Louisville so I guess playing them to within 4 points is pretty good.

The southern tip of Florida is far away from everywhere. You don't pass through there on your way to anywhere else.

Why are you bringing up Peoria County? I know it's small, I used to live there.

What are we even talking about anymore? Why would you even say that you'll "take [your] chances with 5 Top 50-100 guys versus 5 Top 125-200 guys any day."...literally EVERYONE would agree. But those rankings don't mean anything until scouts and coaches have seen and evaluated players, and they really don't mean much until junior/senior year anyway. But that's beside the point, I'm just saying it's not hard to fly under the radar if you're not getting seen by coaches--and coaches don't really see players very much until summer ball, unless those players are local, or playing in highly visible high school leagues.

I'm done arguing about this. I feel like I've gotten way off track...all I set out to do is say that Trent Frazier's offer list should be of no concern to us until after this month.

I think you are reaching to try and explain why this kid is sort of an enigma in that he has not had an offer since August 2015 and he is not rated in Top 100 by anyone except Scout.

1) He has been evaluated clearly already by several schools. Obviously staff from faraway Illinois, and Kansas State, and Baylor found him somehow in that tiny little off the beaten path swamptown of.... 100,000 in Florida.
2) He isn't playing on a team at the bigger showcase events so far. Not sure why. That is either because he doesn't want to be on such teams, or is not getting asked.
3) It is hard to evaluate him when he doesn't play at these more visible events.

My point is we need to see more of what he can do.
Pretty simple.

If staff take a verbal, it is premature IMO and locks up a third schollie on yet another 3 star in the class so far when we need at least a couple kids who can play a role right away.

Wasn't looking good for awhile. Now it's looking better.

That was all message board myth. Some people thought he was looking for a better opportunity than Illinois. Smith is the one who has said that Groce is promoting an all Illinois theme for the 2017 class. Supposedly good friends with Eastern. I'll be surprised if we don't get an OV from him. BTW, he has really blown up this summer.
This might also explain some of the cooling on Terrence Lewis.
