It's interesting that Underwood met with Pickett today, and Tilmon tomorrow, I wonder when he plans to meet Williams? Will he meet Frazier with him so heavily committed?

Did Coach Underwood speak with Frazier at the NIT game? Thought both were going to be in attendance there...

He will need some extra scholarships for bigs. Betting there are a couple of transfers after he sits with players. Not bad players from my perspective but some will fit better than others. Don't think he will have time for players with no motors. He will develop players but there will be fallout.

Rule # 1 - Recruiting Message Boards (not just our own)

ALL fan bases think that every top recruit XYZ (name does not matter) would fit great in their coach's system, and better than any other coach's system. :D

Would BU really retain Walker if he didnt think Walker was the key to Tilmon? Is there a possibility Tilmon confirmed to Walker he would commit to Illinois if Walker stayed?

If you read Tigerboard, yes. I actually just read the exact same thing on Tigerboard and was the main motivation for my post.
Read the same thing and started laughing. I wasn't aware that Cuonzo actually had an offensive system...

If Cuonzo couldnt succeed at Cal, what makes recruits think he will at Mizzwho?

The same reason that made Jawun Evans commit to Ford while on the hot seat, and the same reason Goodwin and Carte'Are Gordon committed to SLU shortly after. Good recruiters can recruit.

Tilmon would fit better in Cuonzo's system than Underwood's.

*ducks*

Why is that? Underwood said he had to adjust his defense last year and not pressure as much because he didn't have a rim protector. Tilmon can be that. Running and pressing teams play better with a big to rebound and get the ball out and defend the basket. Underwood's teams are known for offensive rebounding, too. Tilmon should fit that.

Good coaches adjust their schemes to the personnel.

Now there's a concept we haven't seen in more than a decade.

The first time I heard BWood interviewed, he mentioned adjusting to his personnel multiple times. I couldn't be more excited to see that in action. It was something Groce was never willing to (or capable of) doing.

Two thoughts. 1. The St. Louis metro area has been and will continue to be a hot bed for recruits. Keeping Walker was a no brainer. I am sure that was a done deal before BU reached Champaign. With Zo and Ford it's going to be a battle. 2. We don't have many players coming back and I am concerned about how many can succeed under BU system. Lucas for sure. Kipper and Finke probably. JCL and Black not so sure. DJW a good fit that appears to be transferring. I hoped the Groce firing would change his mind but it doesn't appear so.

I'll bite.

First, I agree with the poster that said fanbases always think their prospective recruits fit their coach's style. However, there are some easy things to look at for Underwood vs Cuonzo.

First is pace of play. Here it is easy to see that Underwood's style fits anyone who likes to get up and down the court. Cuonzo's style is much slower and methodical. There is no way to contradict this statiscally and not only is it a faster pace but it is more efficient.

Second, is how the post is used. Underwood, when not running in full-court, will use his center starting at the high post and cutting or posting after traffic has cleared. This requires a multi-skilled big man who can shoot, pass and is athletic enough to make a hard cut and seal. Cuonzo will play big men in more of a traditional get into the post and stay down low. This was a problem for Tilmon in HS as his guards could not get him the ball on the block and then he was doubled too frequently when they did. It will be very difficult to cover Tilmon's athleticism in Underwood's offense and almost impossible to double without leaving wide open perimeter shooters.

I personally feel Maverick Morgan's skill set fits Cuonzo's scheme more. However, guys like Tilmon and Finke should fit a five for Underwood much better.

I watched an analysis of Underwood's spread offense to try and get a handle on what we're going to see in the coming years. Finke is tailor-made for an Underwood offense. We should see his numbers jump next year.

Just noticed Mark Smith is following Brad Underwood on twitter but not martin.

Does Mark Smith like other school's tweets? I see him like many pro-Illinois tweets. Obviously, I'm not using this activity to see if he will choose the illini. I'm just curious.

Alright, who is feeling in the mood to take something that happened on Twitter and spin it into the most completely ridiculous, ominous thing ever? If you are:

Pickett, who met with Underwood today, retweeted DaMonte's tweet with the questioning/pondering/thinking emoji.

Have fun.
