Rumor has it that Black is moving on. Others too, but Black is the ball buster.

Tomorrow: Black Monday.

This is just brutal.

When will be at rock bottom?

Grid shows 10 offered yet for the 2018-2019 season with an unknown number by the staff's own grid. We'll see how this all shakes out since there will probably be more defections in time. Hopefully, the staff will fill the open slots with the right players. Believing the staff will do fine - just have to be patient and standby for a long 8 months till that first game in the fall.

Will Frazier and ayo be the only two players on the roster next year?

Leron Black moving on to another school makes little sense -- he would be hard pressed to find another system that would showcase his skill set in the same manner as this offense (and where he would be a clear #1 option), and no matter if he is at U of I or elsewhere, his defense and tendency to be foul prone will be the issues that he needs to focus on in order to stay on the floor and advance toward the pros.

On the other hand, if he is turning pro and trying the Euro- or D-League routes, he will learn a heck of a lot more there about basketball then he will at any US College. He has his degree, he has a fiancé -- maybe he is moving on to the next stage of his life?

You left off the possibility that he wants a masters in an area that UIUC does not offer

If that's true next year will be worse than this year...

In the post, depending...

If can manage to get one of Tevian Jones and Ramey, and some serviceable bigs, might be ok.

Possible additions Trice, 5th year big (or two)
Get enough talented guards and maybe play smaller and faster.
If could somehow manage to get Jones and Ramey, that might help appeal to a more talented 5th year transfer big.

  :illinois:

Ubermensch

BOOM! Feed my ego.
It’s not ideal but it’s not a dagger.

Good riddance to anyone who doesn’t want to be here. The sooner they leave the sooner their slot can be filled by someone who wants to play for BU. He’s a terrific coach. If guys are too soft to play for him then they’re never going to be part of a winning program here.

I stand corrected.

The other possibility we should allow for is perhaps he wants to be closer to home (Memphis).

Hopefully, whatever is driving this, it works out for the best for Leron. We all clearly want him to stay, but he has to do what he thinks is best for himself.

Please remember everyone, these are kids who are trying to do what they and their families believe are best for them. I would hope no one would ever fault someone for that even if they don't see that with their favorite team. Anyone who transfers out I wish them nothing but the best in their future endeavors.

It may be a few years now before the NCAAs and beyond are realistic options but Underwood will get this going before long.

Coach had a great thing going at SFA, won at OKST and decided to come to Champaign, thank you Coach Underwood and I can't wait to watch you bring this program back over the years to come!

Amen to that. There are a heck of a lot more pressures on kids in general today than when I was growing up. And these are college students with the additional pressure of working a full time job (NCAA Div. 1 college sports are essentially a full time job) and in the revenue sports, a whole bunch of folks criticizing their every move. Anyone who ever puts on the Orange and Blue has my utmost respect for the time and commitment they show in just doing that.

I am both really high on and optimistic about Tevian.

Ramey, though - I’ll start betting anybody the field vs. us.

Some have implied that Ramey may be far fetched at Illinois due to Frazier/Ayo and other guards as well. However, he was scheduled to go to Louisville along with Afernee Simons who was ranked ahead of him National and by position.

Don't see our guards being the reason he may not choose us Ayo or anyone else, and maybe he wants to play with an Ayo/Frazier/Ramey 3 guard set and run?:chief:

Black leaving would make things tough. We’d be losing a big presence and scorer. But, it might help the rest of the guys gel, they won’t be able to rely on him to score. Next year would certainly be tougher without him.

I wonder why the team just didn’t gel. I suppose it happened to Groce too but this seems worse for some reason. We might have a lot of playing time to offer ;)

This reminds me of Memphis / Pittsburgh a year ago when the whole team was transferring out after a new coach came in who'd been successful everywhere else. I still believe in Underwood, but I don't care how good of a coach you are you need talent to win.

Black, Smith and whoever else leaves with what little we have coming in right now makes next season seem like a redshirt season. Just enjoy the few wins and hope 2019 will be better
