Wow, Mizzou with a pretty blatant shot at us in their Tilmon commitment graphic. State of Illinois and Missouri with a tiger image overlayed. Game on Miznoz.

Tacky. Well, that's one p!ssing contest I hope we don't get into with the athletic department. Should we land anyone who Miznoz had hopes for, eh, we shouldn't make a deal out of it.

Enjoy it while you can, folks. Between players and coaches, I'll take our deal. Tilmon vs Smith and Martin vs Underwood. I think we got the better of that particular stick.

Yep. The biggest bummer is that it's such a position of need for us, but oh well. Never get too invested in the whims of 17/18 year olds.

Missouri will be interesting though. Unless Michael Porter Jr. is truly a phenom (like significantly better than Ben Simmons) I don't see them making the tournament next year. That roster is still a dumpster fire with some sprinkles on top.

...then Porter Jr. leaves...

We already did. Mark Smith. ;)

They're getting an awfully big influx of talent. It's not like they're going to finish ahead of Kentucky and Florida, but I'll be surprised (and delighted) if they can't manage an at-large bid with that level of raw talent, especially in a top-heavy league like the SEC.

Cal missed the tournament this past year with 2 non-freshman 5* players (Rabb and Bird) and Charlie Moore. That's the level of coaching they will be getting at Miznoz.

I'm disappointed Tilmon didn't stay with Illinois, but glad the waiting is over. I do like having Mark Smith, and think it will work out for the best.

UI's coach is at his third university in three years.

Sucks to admit, but this is true. Helps to remind us that this is nothing more than a business. Coach Underwood made what he felt was his best business decision(s). Ditto for Coach Martin. And Tilmon made what he felt was the best business decision for himself. I wish him the best and hope it works out for him.

Jeremiah Tilmon is in good hands. There can't be a better role model than Cuonzo Martin. @KSDKSports @MizzouHoops

Bingo. And come to think of it, the general reaction of commenters around these parts was not "we beat Mizzou" but "we got Mark Smith over all the important teams" which as it happens didn't include you know who.

JT is a baller wish he would of came here. IMO he will be in the NBA in 2 to 3 years. BU & company will bring talent in so even though the lost does hurt short term, long term we will be cool. Want be surprised if we get a better big in next years class. Just got a lot of faith in this staff.

Tilmon is a 4 year player imo, he is good, not leave early good. Best of luck to him though.

Feel that all of his 4 years will not be in the conzou. But just my gut feeling.

Not that Underwood needs a little extra fire in his belly, but the way this went down sets-up for maximum belly fire in the bragging rights game. Looking so forward to it! :)

Except somebody has to explain to him what it is.

And it was a step up each and every time. Do you consider moving from LaLu HS to ESLHS a step up? What about moving a commitment from UI to Miznoz, a step up also?

LaLu to ESL is moving back home. Nothing more, nothing less.

Generally speaking sure. But we are talking about basketball. People like to keep throwing out the 'BU was at 3 schools in 3 years' thing as if it were a negative. It is not, in any way, shape, or form. We are very fortunate to have been able to get him.

Who gets to decide what qualifies as an appropriate reason for leaving? Butthurt Illini fans? Seems reliable.
